I have won tickets to the following play in Gateshead and unforunatley
can't make it. If anyone has swaps for it I will gladly give you the
details. I am based in Manchester if that helps.
Following our telephone conversation I am pleased to inform you have
won a pair of tickets to see The Selkie at The Sage Gateshead on
Thursday 7th February 2008. The show starts at 8.00pm...
Folkworks
The Selkie by Valerie Laws
with live sea music from The Keelers and Katie Doherty
Valerie Laws’ highly unusual new play, directed by Neil Armstrong, is
part domestic drama, part mythological fable. A modern-day Whitley Bay
woman, undermined by an unfaithful husband, a gobby daughter and
demanding aged parent, finds herself increasingly called by the voice
of the sea, where her mother is said to have committed suicide. But is
the woman simply growing deranged, or in touch with some higher
calling which also summoned her mother? Is she becoming a Selkie? The
play is both dramatic and comic, with specially written sea music
performed on stage live by The Keelers, accompanied by rising singing
star Katie Doherty. Valerie Laws is a North East poet and playwright,
and this production is the debut here for Cloud Nine, the innovative
North East new writing company.
