Scout wrote:I have to disagree with some of the above posts about main dealers necessarity being the most expensive. we bought a nearly new Honda 8 years ago. To start with, it was main dealer serviced, but I used to have it done when I came north to visit relatives as the price difference was amazing. Once it was 3 years old I took it to 'reputable' and recommended private garages. When we moved, we had to find anothr garage and so went for a recommended one. After the first service, the car ran abysmally - they had broken the distributor cap. When they replaced it, they couldn't set it up right so had to adjust other things in the engine to get it to run. I could always tell the difference. When it became my husband's car, he continud to take it to this garage - services, brakes, exhausts. They completely knackered the brakes and it took them 2 weeks to find out what they had done to the rear brakes!! After that I told OH to take it to the main dealer who had pened up the road - car ran better than it had for 4 year.
Cost of service at private garage - £99
cost at Honda dealer - £59 (for same level of service)
Tyres and exhausts also significantly cheaper than elsewhere. I'm not saying main dealers are always cheaper - just don't discount them. Get a quote - they may in fact be saving you money.
Not that I don't believe you but I very much doubt you can get a service for £59 from a main Honda dealer!!!!0 -

The standard time is for 1 man on the job putting 2 people on the job is not in anyway taking the mick i'm afraid. The other type of job is a 1+1 where the second person is acting in a saftey role or something similar to assist where although two people are on the job it would not necessarily be completed any quicker but the workshop would need to take the hit for that one.
On the subject of lubrication they are likely charging in litres again you have been charged appropriately. 0-1litre is a unit,1-2,2-3,3-4and what you required 4-5litres. Oh, and 1.3hrs is 78 minutes

My father-in-law would really like to know which Honda dealer is servicing a car for £59.
He was recently quoted £290 PLUS PARTS for main dealer servicing of a Honda Civic.
1 1/2 hours labour!
Local independent £160 TOTAL for the same job0 -

Having looked at the 1.5hrs sevice schedule for a 1.4 Civic your father in law will be pleased to know that there are 72 points addressed in the service (unless it's an auto) of which 69 points are check/report (ie look at) and three are 'do jobs . Basically £290 to change engine oil and filter and change the brake hydraulic fluid.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Thanks for that ohreally, it's a 1.6 with automatic transmission.
No doubt the total (Honda dealer) bill would have been well over £300 with inflated prices added for oil, filter, brake fluid etc.! Maybe closer to £400? He didn't say if the £290 was v.a.t. inclusive either.0 -

Stop showing off, buy a car out of warranty and let a knowledgeable independent service it at half the cost or less, and do a proper job.
Going to a main dealer is certainly not mse!
A harsh post :rolleyes:0 -
If your car takes four liters of oil they will charge you for five because it’s a five liter of oil.
All garages charge by the hour incase of problems on your car, that way a job may take thirty minutes but because of problems it takes fifty.
If your car is out of warranty then take it to a local garage, when its new you have to get ripped off or you loose your warranty!
But once the warranty runs out? Get it serviced cheaper by a local garage, also if you go to a main dealers aboard and get your car serviced you will save a lot of money.
Main dealer UK £340 full service
Dealer abroad £140 full serviceI'm not poor i'm just skint0 -

Sorry but it's nonsense to imply that to maintain warranty cover a car must be maintained by the dealer. European Block Exemption sorted this out several years ago.
