Mortgage Broker usernames

Options
It was once discussed that perhaps brokers should not have names that obviously indicate that they are a broker..as might be seen as self promotion .... this was not implemenated, a few new users recently joined with obvious names..

Any other thoughts from (all sides) if such names should be allowed ?

Agreed - been some fairly blatant self-advertising recently.

Retired, I would happily remove my signature, but its a ( MSE conduct code ) requirement for it to be there
Mortgage Advisers who choose not to use the signature should not indicate they are brokers in any other way within their posts.

by removing a signature it would be be hard for me to post my knowledge without it indicating I was a broker

So what difference does the username mean if you have a signature telling you that the user is a broker/advisor anyway?

Noz in a lot of ways I agree, however you may see that many don't follow the signature correctly , plus with so many brokers comi8ng here I wonder if the choice of a username is maybe being used to stand one out above another.

Point taken about some not following the signature correctly.

Can't say I have any outright objection to it anyway, more curious on the thought behind the suggestion.

I'll be interested on how the discussion develops...

I have no objection to usernames signifying your profession but do object to usernames that spell out advertising eg mydotmortgagedotwebsitedotcom.

  • I never gave the mse code thing a thought either. Like 99.99999% of folks on any message board I never bother to read the rules as posts on a message board are no different to a scrawl on a toilet wall at the end of the day.

The majority of people who 'advertise' their status by their username are doing so to obtain business. This shows either that they are very new to the business and have no client bank or lead generation in place, or that they are unable to obtain business any other way.

Up to them really, but surely not the type of 'professional' anyone sensible would want to do business with?

As Payless says, I only have the signature in place as it is a requirement of the MSE forum rules.

^^^ Hey, I take a lot of care in my posts.... Most of the time. :(

I have never posted "call me, fun time to be had" or "Be here at 8pm on Fridays"
"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!
