DS Repair?

My son dropped his Nintendo DS and the bottom screen is now black with 3 cracks. I've looked on Ebay but am a little confused about what can or needs replacing. Many sellers selling the 'bottom screen' which it is, but when you read their description it says that this is not the touchscreen???
Can anyone lend some advice?

Found these on google. I'v enever used them so no idea if they are any good nut the prices look OK. They sell the aprts for you to repair it yourself or will fix it for you. £36.95 for a new lower screen fitted.

repairing DS lites is a pretty fiddly job. Personally I'd ask codestorm (office nintendo UK repair agent) how much a paid-for repair is, and that way you get a 12 month warranty too. You might be suprised that this is generally cost effective, especially as they postage both ways is included.

email NintendoServiceCentre@codestorm.co.uk for a quote (include description of fault in you email)

if you contact Nintendo customer services they can do repairs at a relatively reasonable price.

From memory just before the DS lite came out it was about £45 inc shipping back to you, and vat for a repair for accidental damage - i say repair but they actually replace it with a new one (which I believe gives you a new standard warranty).

I think the price hasn't changed much since then for similar accidental damage repairs to the lite.

My DS lite has a cracked hinge - I've read somewhere that this was a known issue with early DS lites and that Nintendo would repair it free. However my DS is out of warranty, does anyone know whether I can still expect free repair?

Well don't quote me but I've "at least one" hinge repair a few months out of warrant FOC. Otherwise hinge repair is chargable at (IIRC) £30.50 inc postage each way (it's actually prepaid parcelforce to them and they return via citylink) Just email them on the address I quoted above to ask.
  • The touch screen on y DS is totally out of synch and is becoming unusable for many games which require accurate contact with the stylus. I have emailed Codestorm, the official Nintendo repairers in the UK, twice but have received no response. I have also rung twice but have had to give up after holding for 10 minutes each time. My DS is 2 to 3 years old. Would I be as well to buy a new one or is it worth holding out for a response from Nintendo. Also, does anyone know of any other repair services?

    Many thanks.
  • Nintendo took 3 weeks to respond with a standard cost of £55, so I'm guessing it's not worth hanging around for them!

If you buy another DS, GAME do extended warranties on them for £13 that includes all accidents as well. I know this is blatant advertisement, but it highlights it's usefulness when I hear of things like this.
