Well thanks again for all the replies.
We had kippers for the first time for breakfast yesterday morning, with bread (tiger loaf), butter and a poached egg on the side.
We opted for the fillets, rather than the shrink wrapped ones and they were delicious.
Thank you again everyone!
Well that's the first hurdle, now you need to pluck up the courage to go for the no-holds barred on the hoof version. In addition to tasting even better for some reason, a whole kipper enables you to prolong the whole delightful experience as it takes much longer to get through - finishing by chewing the crispy bits off the bone!0 -
Thanks folks...I am now starving, will have to attack the smoked mackerel in the fridge...yes I know that they are not the same as kippers, but are the nearest I can manage at present.
Arbroath smokies are on another level entirely...put in jug, pour on boiling water, leave a couple of minutes, drain and serve with buttered brown bread...mmmmmmmmm
I think that it is a shame that the old traditions of eating kippers, etc are no longer so widespread, they were a cheap and healthy addition to people's diet...many now would rather have plastic ham than a kipper...insane!

We should be glad, it is due to lack of demand they are so cheap, if they ever got a Super Food tag or such like they would go into the blueberry price range overnight
Please Delia, never mention kippers:rotfl:Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Simply the best, whenever I am anywhere near Whitby I always take a detour to go to Fortunes smoke house for Kippers and more .
