Was I Being A Little Harsh With Talktalk

According to the site it takes several weeks to sort out the exchange though cannot provide a guaranteed date.

As far as I was concerned free broadband = free, not charged until TALKTALK sort their act out.

Whats people experience reference this??

  • Despite the warnings about their dire service on this website, I signed up for TalkTalk via RPoints website in November - for one week they offered 3500 points (£35 cashback) plus a free Setanta viewing card, a Freeview box and two monts subscription if you signed up for Talk 2 or 3 International plus Broadband.
They gave me an installation date then wrote to say they would miss it and contact me with a new one in due course. Transpired they did connect me on original installation date and I was charged from that date even though they had not sent the modem to allow me to connect!
BTW they did not automatically transmit order to Setanta and when I phoned to chase they placed the order with Setanta at that point. Setanta phoned back to say that they would not be honouring the offer as it was received outwith offer period, but I could have a box and card for £40 plus they could give me 3 months for £5 each.
I complained to TalkTalk and asked them to honour contract, at which point they offered £20 credit. I refused it and, having taken legal advice, last night gave them 7 days to either fulfil the Setanta offer or credit my account with £50. If they fail to act I can buy the Setanta kit myself and send a claim plus receipts to TalkTalk's registered address via Recorded Delivery.
I'll post again once I get a result.

It took so long to get this that I forgot to return and post again as promised. The threat worked though, so the moral of the story is don't be fobbed off by offers of a credit when the offer is worth much more. BTW I didn't need the Setanta box, just the viewing card, so I flogged it on Ebay for £28! Who's the MSE now?

Enabling an exchange to be part of their LLU program is TalkTalk and BT decision, sometimes BT dont have enough room at some exchanges, other times theres other more important work. I know its costing you an extra £10 per month, but i assume you were told this when you applied. It is in their interest to put you on the LLU channel asap as its much more profitable for them.

    Hi all,

The unbunndling of an exchange is costly and timely and unfortunately the implementation is delayed for a number reasons ranging from not enough power, room to cooling at exchange. A full list of all the exchanges waiting upgrade are on the talk talk members website, and its updated on a monthly basis so you should be able to get the best picture from there https://www.talktalkmembers.com

    Thanks

    Hi Talktalk Support
Can you tell me what are the chances of getting the speed below
I recieve broadband from aol at the moment on bt network and live quite a distance from the exchange so only get 512Kbps currently due to distance,
I know that talktalk have LLU the exchange so will this increase the speed on my line or in all honesty I am always going to be stuck with 512Kbps for ever due to the distance from the exchange

Your broadband will activate: 20 June 08 giving you a speed of up to 512 KbpsYour network switchover will occur by:14 July 08 giving you a speed of up to 2.0 Mbps

    thanks
    Jim
