  • For your information about brand/value etc..

It is an urban myth that appliance are produced in genetic factories and brand labels added afterwards. Occasionally a manufacturer will outsource manufacturing to another company, but these are generally the cheapest models from Sony/Bosch etc and still must meet their quality standards, which are generally higher than the cheap brands.

When you canvas opinion about is Beko good, bad etc, there will always be people that say yes, been going 14 years, and others than say no lasted only months...Goods these days are built to last an average life. As in, Beko will last an average of 3 years, some will break after only a few months, others will last 10 years, but the mean will be 3 years. Recognised good brands are engineered to have a higher average, say 6 years, meaning that SOME will only last a few months too, while more will last over 10 years. So beware when asking opinion on here, it all depends on sample size.

I can say it really does depend on what you want. The cheaper brands of Beko, Indesit etc are cheaper because they generally use older technology, not as quiet, energy efficient and MAY break sooner. Where as more expensive brands Bosch, Siemans, etc will employ new technologies and will perform better and SHOULD last longer, but it all does depend on risk. You may think 180 quid Beko is much better value for a washing machine compared to an 360 quid Bosch, but if the Beko lasts only 3 years and the Bosch 6 years, then the 'value' is pretty much the same!!

I'm sorry if you think I'm having a rant, but it's important to realise that true money saving isn't necessarily just buying the cheapest possible.

on another note, why do they sell washing machines that cold fill only now...I have a redundant hot water pipe!

thats why they are energy efficient. you only heat up the water you actually require for the wash.

No worries Andy - that wasn't ranting!!!:p An interesting point & I agree with most of it particularly your last para.

I don't think people need to BEWARE of asking for opinions - they need to BE AWARE of what their own needs/circumstances are.

For example we get people who say "I'm sellingthe house complete with appliances and I just want a cheapo new w/machine to make the kitchen look smart." Likewise people with holiday cottages often want cheaper brands.

Then you get someone who says "I have 5 kids, I use the machine 3 times every day and I have a budget of £xxxx, what would you recommend?"

It's the same with ANYTHING you buy - there will be people who are thrilled with their new car but someone up the road with an identical car, hates the thing!

We, for example, bought a brand new van for around £15K and haven't even seen it for about 3 or 4 weeks because there have been LOADS of problems with it. Can you believe that a van not even a year old can be sat there waiting for parts and there are none in this country and none in Italy? For all I know, there may be people driving around in similar vans with no probs whatsoever! Although I doubt it actually because they couldn't even lend us a similar van because they were all off the road with same prob. They gave us a much smaller van which was NO WAY big enough to fit everything in and means making several more trips in a day.

Thing is with a van it is ESSENTIAL. You need to get in it and go and not be faffing about wasting time. You choose what you consider a good make, you go for brand new because you expect it to be 100% reliable and you buy the size you need to carry all the gear you have to!

You are earning not a single penny going backwards and forwards to dealers, making phone calls, doing extra trips because you can't get all your stuff in one van and it takes HOURS to empty a racked out van, all the tools, appliances etc and put them into a hire van and THEN repeat it all over again when you finally get yours back.
  • I have had several BEKO appliances in the past, Fridge/Freezer, TV etc and have found that if you are prepared to accept that they are basic, that they are very good value for money and I have never had any problems with any of them.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

    Hi

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a question for anyone with a BEKO Upright Freezer. There are numbers from 1-4 and I can't remember which is the coldest setting!

I'm defrosting it at the moment, which could take ages, and want to ensure we don't get as much frost and ice building up when I set it to freeze again.

    Thanks,

    Metherer
