Halifax/B.O.S. took money without permission

Just had a letter - they took over £160 out of my current account without permission.

I have not paid for december or january as they lowered my credit limit so I could not use the card, then I needed my wages to buy food.

I have asked for final settlements as I want to close but the money they took was for my mortgage extension.

Then I can't get through

Current account and all savings accounts are now moving!!

I am sure somewhere in the credit agreement you will have agreed to this.

So you saying you haven't paid December or January bills and wonder why they have taken money?

I have written more than once, they started the problem on November in the first place, I am moving all of my business off them.

They have never helped, much better service off my other accounts.

I am going to have to borrow some money now for February.

    Reading between the lines...

You have a Halifax/BOS (credit?) card which you haven't paid in December or January.

You also have a Halifax/BOS current account.

Halifax/BOS have taken £160 from your current account to pay the credit card

Yes they can do this. In your credit card T&Cs it will say they can take any money you owe on the card from any other account that you have with them if there is money in there.

This is pretty much standard so the moral is don't have your credit card with the bank that you bank with.

I have written to all debtors asking for final valuations and they all ignore the letters and carry on piling on charges and interest.

I am going to claim off the lot of them next week, Halifax first, then Tesco, - I hope to claim back enough to pay off at least one loan installment.

It has taken to today to realise they WANT you in debt and and getting out of debt is not in their interest - they WANT me to be forced to sell my house rather than get a loan because they won't let me afford it.

Tempted to ask gas, electric, water, phone, ect to skip a month for me

Come to think of it this account was pushed at me when I got a remortgage for new house around 9 years ago. I was tolded sign this and get a card - hard sold it as I was unsure as I didn't trust cards. But it was so easy, then 0% balance transfers - how exciting - a recipe for disaster.

Just in case - if the credit card is in your sole name and the current account joint, they cannot legally do that.
  • Just put your cash in another account. When you can start making ayments to the credit card then do so, but be ready to accept the int and late paymnet fees that you will get. With respect, they may have pushed the card on you, but they didnt walk you round the shops spending the money.

Write to them wioth a list of income and expenditure and lay your cards on the table and say i cant afford the bill. If they dont accept that then you will have to find a n alternative route.

    I think both are joint

They also will not send a final value bill

I will be trying the charges claim back on them too
  • The final value bill as you say will be the balance on your statement. Pay it off before the due date and it is all done and dusted.

Whilst the card was 'forced' on you when you remortgaged they have not spent a penny of the money on it - you have.

Sorry you find it yourself in financial difficulty but it looks to me like you robbing Peter to pay Paul.
You need a proper sit down either by yourself or through an agency like CAB and sort your finances out.
I would also suggest you visit the debt free wannabe board.
