My husband is receiving long term IB and receives £179.80 fortnightly, but I'm not sure how this is made up. The age addition is for under 45's according to the direct gov web site, which he was when he received it but it doesn't say how much it is.Does this vary depending on your actual age?

Yes there are 2 age additions, one higher for the under 35s and one lower for those 35 to 44.
  • Hi Shazza,

He is gettin I.B Long Term at £81.35 and £8.55 which is the age addition rate for people age 35-44.

    Does this make sense?

you have to be under 34 to get the £17.10 age addition.

    see here

    http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/index/ssa/benefit_information/a-z_of_benefits/incapacity_benefit_gbi.htm

    and scroll down to rates.

Is your husband 35 or over?

If so, he should receive £81.35 IB + £8.55 Lower Rate Age Addition. The higher rate of £17.10 is payable to those under 35.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • i know this is off topic but was wondering if any of you guys with anxiety/depression and on IB get condition management through the job centre and how you are getting on with it.

Thanks for the replies. He was under 44 when he first started getting it. He had the IB stopped a few years ago, appealed and won, but they reduced the payment. From what I can remember it was just over £200 fortnightly, he was also claiming the dependency part for our 2 kids. I thought they had just reduced the dependency part of the payment because I was earning more but they must have stopped it altogether.
Anyway, at least we now know how it is made up.

  • Hi, I have agoraphobia and depression/anxiety. I'm also pregnant. I'm 25 and get £61.35 a week, paid fortnightly (£122.70). You have to write to them with good reason if you want it paid weekly. I'm a lot worse off on incapacity as I found out today that I can't even get my maternity grant, so I can't get things for my baby - he's due 7th June and I have nothing! I think my incap will go up when I've been on it longer, because I've only just started reclaiming it. I tried to work and got sacked! I was getting around £70 per week in early 2007, but it was topped up with income support.
