problem with my car hand brake

oh i had it in 2nd i will try reverse 2morrow0

It doesn't really matter whether you have it in 1st or reverse. The car doesn't "know" which way up or down a hill it's pointing!
The whole idea is that you want to be in as low a gear ratio as possible, as this provides the most resistance (or torque if you like). So to be safe, I'd personally leave it in 1st, as this has a lower gear ratio than reverse.0 -

Completely agree with other comments here regarding leaving it in 1st gear. Are you sure you're not in 3rd?
Handbrakes don't stretch. If they did they would be completely pointless.This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -
