even less likely now that it also has restricted parking
Well it seems you have not been deterred, and nor will anyone wanting or needing to live there. I have never heard of whole neighbourhoods becoming unsellable due to permit parking.

The parking issue sounds like a red herring. The real issue is buyer thinks house is worth X, while seller thinks it is worth X+8K. Only time (and nerves) will show who is right, but ultimately you cannot force someone to sell their house at the price you think is reasonable.

  • I moved from one end of the country to the other, in the summer, so decided to rent while I looked at areas to buy in. The house is near a main line station to London and commuters cause big parking problems around here. There are car parks for commuters, but they don't want to pay, nor do they want to walk too far to get to the station. The council are now asking if residents want permit parking and most people I have spoken to, want this. The ones that aren't so keen are the households who have a lot of cars.

Having now lived this scenario of parking problems, permit parking would definitely add value to a property to me.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

  • I would love to have residents' parking in my street in the UK as the world and his wife always park thre on their way to work as it is near three quick and easy bus routes to the city.

It would be an assett in this situation, so no, it certainly wouldn't put me off.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • The restriction is monday to friday 8 til 6 residents only. I would have preferred say an hour so people could just pop in during the day rather than a complete ban.
  • My household has 5 cars and when daughter visits thats another. I want free parking. A house with permit parking has no value I will not buy. Need garages and open spaces. Free car parks for all.
