Job seekers allowance?

Options
Does anyone know where to find out if I can claim job seekers allowance? Next week it looks like my temp job will finish and I haven't (yet) got a new one lined up. Now that's not to say I won't have one by then! Just that I was wondering if I could claim in case I don't... :)

You need to apply at the Jobcentre, or you can do it over the phone.

You can claim if you are actively seeking work. If you have paid sufficient NI Contributions (in two years out of the past three), you will get JSA (Contributions Based). If not, you can apply for income based JSA, however you may not qualify for this if you have a partner in employment.

    Any questions, just ask! x

Certainly have paid lots of NI contributions over the last 10 let alone 3 years lol! I was wondering as my OH does work but any little extra would be handy if I might not find anything in time...
So provided I have paid enough NI in the last 3 years and I'm actively seeking work then I should qualify for JSA? I know I won't qualify for income based as on paper OH earns a fair salary - shame it's all eaten up by mortgage and debts really not to mention an upcoming wedding... *sigh*

Further to your other replies, if you are eligible for JSA (contribution based) you will only get this for 6 months, after which time you would usually transfer onto JSA (income based), but it sounds like you won't be able to get that one - so just make sure you've got another job before 6 months is up.....
