OK I'm converted! I just put a tea bag in a mug, poured on boiling water and then immediately took out the bag :j Tasted great, obviously didn't know the first thing about making Green Tea. Who cares if I run out of milk now - who needs it when you have green tea :j

Thank you Ted for all the information! I have already been drinking some green tea but only about 1 cup a day. I shall up this amount asap!

I got absolutely converted to green tea during visits to Japan having been given a crash course on the real stuff by a couple of Japanese friends. There's a wonderful variant which is amazingly thick, a bit like sludgy expresso coffee, which you drink with sweets made with beans. Anyway, the reason for mentioning this in particular is that it makes wonderful ice cream and sorbets, very light and refreshing if you have an ice cream maker.

It does (no way of putting this delicately, sorry) make your wee smell funny though.

  • Ted, in another thread, did you say it can exacerbate asthma symptoms? Don't want to put a damper on the weight loss fun, just thought I'd mention it incase anyone was asthmatic...
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • Please tell me if any one has a recipe for green tea ice -cream!

Tried to google this recipe but can only find one that was one of those diet ones! ( I believe ice cream should be eaten with all the fatness in!)

I had this in a Thai Resturant once it it taste sooo yummy!
  • Hi Ted, yet another reason to drink it!

I saw an article in the Independant saying that 2 cups of it a day have the same anti-oxidant properties of 5 pieces of fruit

Antioxidants may increase the probability of developing allergic diseases and asthma. Explains that it is because Green Tea is so high in antioxidents. For people who aren't asthmatic antioxidents are highly desirable
Green tea-induced asthma: relationship between immunological reactivity, specific and non-specific bronchial responsiveness. shows that for people who work in a Green Tea factory it can be.
I suspect that this may only be a theoretical problem for the majority of readers here as most people use tea bags and this is likely to produce a much weaker tea with less likelihood of a severe reaction.
However the problem of antioxidents in general producing an adverse impact on asthma suffers is a double blow for them. It seems common sense that antioxidents are good for you but this isn't always the case see
