TitanHiTours for my brilliant Dad

My Dad has just left me completely gobsmacked, in a really nice way.

He's told me that he's 70 this year and that he wants to have the holiday of his dreams --- and please could I find and book a holiday for him in America :j:eek::j:eek::beer:

He's not been out of the country since doing his National Service, and America has always really appealed to him.

Ok, long story short. He wants to visit in September, he's not TOO bothered about the cost as its going to be a one off, he wants to go for about 2 weeksish and an escroted holiday sounds perfect for him.

I'm aware of TitanHiTours reputation (Titan HiTours was voted the UK's number one Escorted Tour Operator of 2007.) and they have several trips that are very suitable for him and are bang on the money

but I was wondering if any MSEers have any experiences of travelling with TitanHiTours that they would be able to share with me.

Its not often that my Dad can leave me speechless, but on this occassion he has done it with bells on :j:j

I don't have any experience of Titan, but my parents went with Travelsphere and had a great time, and I think Kuoni do escorted tours to the US too.

I had a quick look at Travelsphere and their holidays look very suitable as well -- but the TitanHiTours free transfer from your home to departure airport (in our case from Lake District - Heathrow - Lake District) is a real winner for my Dad.
He has visions of a chauffeur driven limo whisking him the length of the country

Well, I think you'll find that its a van with windows, the sort that transfers people from car parks to the airport terminals, I just wouldn't want him to feel let down, I'm sure the vans will be shown in their brochure.

In any case, I would suggest that you strongly consider Titan, purely from the pick up point of view.

We went with Travelsphere last year, but had to get to Gatwick and back from Darlington, its a real drag!

It will probably cost your father an extra couple of hundred pounds built in to the cost but I would say worht every penny!

We have been with Travelshpere as well and would recommend them.

We went to China last year with Archers who were brilliant , quite a few of the group had been on lots of tours and the group consensus was that Titan are one of the best. Their vans are luxurious looking VW people carriers, I see them a lot on the motorway on my travels.

My elderly aunt went on a tour of the states with Titan in her 70's she wasn't keen on travelling alone so this made good sense, she had a great time.

I am pleased that your dad is celebrating his special birthday with a good holiday and I hope he has a ball.

Aye, he knows that it would be a minivan that he gets transported in, but to him, its still a long distance chauffeeuring job !!!
As for the extra money for the transfers, I'm with you (& he is as well) on this.

As for celebrating his 70th in style, I'm absolutely gobsmacked and delighted that he's going to do it. PLUS, if he does the trip that we think that he's going to do, I feel that his Granchildren may just be splashing out on the 'flight over the Grand Canyon' option :j:j

Well folks, here's the update. I spoke to my Dad last night and its still a go :j

I mentioned to him that some people had recommended another travel company (Travelsphere), but he said that Titan had a range of tours that sounded exactly right for him, plus the pick up from home was a complete winner for him (he's not been out of the country for 50 years and hasn't flown anywhere for about 15).
ATM, he's waiting by the door for the Postie to arrive with his brochure and if he can find the holiday that he wants, he wants me to book it for him there and then :eek::beer::j --- but, if he can't find one to suit, then he'll look at Travelsphere etc.



p.s. as a family, we grew up with very, very little. The house was always warm, the bills were paid and we never went hungry. But there was no money left over. At one stage, my Dad was working 3 jobs to keep the house going and to keep me and my sister in essentials.
For him to spend some money on a personal dream for himself is IMO brilliant beyond words and something that I never thought that he would do.
There's life in the old dog yet :rotfl:

Watch out though - he'll get the travel bug!

My dad didn't leave the country until he was about 58 (ish). Since then he's been been all over the place - America three times (and about to go again), China, Europe, you name it!
