Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I think the general consensus appears to be money or vouchers and I think I'll go for the vouchers.
The paintballing, pewter mug and other gifts suggested, sound very good but as I don't know the lad it could be a bit risky so I'll play safe.
It's been good to have other people's opinions.

Im sorry but I have never seen anyone ever use a hip flask, let alone an 18 year old.
My husband used one at our wedding - offered by a friend. The venue (church hall) didn't allow alcohol. I knew something had gone on, but only found out exactly what a few years later!

My daughter is 18 tomorrow and we've done her a box of 18 presents. There are various bits and bobs in there : a fluffy scarf I knitted, chocolates, some nice Nicky Clarke shampoo & conditioner (on BOGOF), pretty pants and socks (Primark), I decorated a key for our house and made a personalised keyring, a mug and selection of different hot chocloate sachets......loads of stuff. And probably came to about £20 in all, so you could do something similar and get a more expensive present for parcel number 18.

A silver charm bracelet and one charm? At each subsequent birthday you can get her additional charms - they aren't too expensive.

  • How about a photo album with 18 different pictures of her and write something silly on each page have got a few things knocking about somewhere that i done for my daughter for her, another is a cd with the last 18 no1s from the day she was born pm me and i will give you the 2 pages i have for music sites that will help xx
  • Why not have a look at https://www.etsy.com - I keep recommending this site as I've bought loads of great gifts there - and the plus is she'll be hard pushed to know what you spent as most of the items are one-offs.

Just be aware of the import tax if you buy something from the US sellers but so far I've found it great and much cheaper than getting stuff here. There are loads of sellers in the uk/Europe too so you can search for them if you want.

Be warned it's a very addictive site!
  • i got my sister a tattoo for her 18th.....doesnt have to be something big, just a little something in a place thats not glaringly obvious to everyone (ie, can be covered up - ankle, etc) and she will have it and the memories forever. My sister loves her. I know you hear all the stories about being old and having paintings all over the body etc but something that is personal to her can be just as good as a physical item - expecially if itss a design she really wants.
