International signed for should have a signature on delivery according to the Royal mail:
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?catId=400033&mediaId=400035
I have to say the RM website is not particarly clear though and appears to contradict itself a couple of times. It does say this though:
We track International Signed For™ items up to the point they leave the UK and in some cases on arrival in the destination country. You can check the progress of your item by using Track & Trace.
When your item reaches its destination country it is handed over to the local postal service for delivery through their regular registered service. A signature will be taken at the delivery address (please note this will not necessarily be the addressee) which means the item is not left unattended or posted through a letter box. Please note that we cannot routinely provide a copy of this signature. If no-one is available to sign for the item, then it will be retained by the postal administration for a subsequent delivery attempt or collection by the addressee. In the case of loss of an item we will request proof of posting from the other postal administration but this cannot always be provided
I then looked at airsure which is the other RM service where it says:
Is a signature taken on delivery?
When your mail is delivered the item will be electronically scanned by the postal operative delivering the item to confirm it has arrived. A signature is not taken but the electronic delivery confirmation is used to update our Track & Trace. If you specifically want your item to be signed for when it is delivered, we recommend you use International Signed For™.
That suggests that Inertaional signed for was the correct service, but I think Royal Mail are getting themselves in a muddle.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
