PLEASE do not class All corgi engineers as rip off merchants!! My husband is one, and he DOES NOT rip people off. Same with every occupation, you get bad eggs!! Would you like it if all LANDLORDS were cast as such?

You could say the same about letting agents

The trouble is, when LLs weren't responsible for the GSC, lots of tenants paid for the resultant lack of maintenance with their lives. This isn't the same as banning conkers from the school playground.

IME the only maintenance that LLs do without fail is the GSC because there's an enforcable consequence.

I'm not even sure that this is carried out without fail.
this year I had to contact the company I use to have my properties re-checked and re-issued with a GSC.
Previously, they sent me a reminder.

I wonder how many LL's maybe forget / are not reminded to get the GSC.

I bet it's a lot fewer than 'forget' their promises to fix dodgy wiring! LLs don't face regular sanctions for that.
  • Hi All, thanks for all the replies. I am surprised at some of the comments, though. In light of all the recent problems with gas/carbon monoxide poisoning, I take my responsibility very seriously - surely, we've not forgotten the sad fatalities of the 2 children on holiday? When I instruct an engineer sanctioned by Corgi, I do not expect to have to double check his work.Should I employ a gardener, for example, and he does not cut the grass to my satisfaction, there is no danger to others. One comment was something to the effect that the engineer could have been newly qualified, or merely ticked the boxes!! Surely, we all cannot afford to gamble with peoples lives.
  • Has anybody thought that there may have been an update to the regulations??? this could have been possible all newly installed gas fires must have a oxy pilot assembly on them so it is possible that the engineer is quite right in what he has said.I would personally want my accomodation up to current specification with open flued appliances anyway,as these are the appliances that can kill. All new boilers are now room sealed boilers so they are a lot safer ie no fumes can pass into the living area as long as they are installed and maintained properly !!! please call corgi and get this verified and post the answer on the forum.

COOKIEWILLOW ALL CORGI REGISTERED PEOPLE STILL HAVE THEIR WORK INSPECTED corgi now inspect work without the installer sometimes knowing and are at random they pick any installation from the ones the installer registers with them, which is why you should always use a bona fide installer.
To keep registrations up to date you must now have to take ACS certification every few years which are expensive and time consuming often costing companys thousands in fees and worktime lost.

It's not just Corgi 'engineers' (there was a time when being an engineer meant something)

I`m a CORGI ENGINEER and i`d ask you to please tell me how , a decent CORGI ENGINEER doesnt mean he`s an ENGINEER

    ?

Now if you were to say that calling a sky intaller an ENGINEER isnt worthy of the name i would tend to agree , not much enginneering in tacking cable to skirts and putting up a dish..

  • It cannot be that the gas regulations have changed, Merlin, because the engineer from BG checked the fire himself and told me that there was no Flame detection device fitted. He said that I should go back to the man and get him to redo the certificate.Obviously, the BG engineer has his current Corgi registration and is upto date with the regs. Now I am concerned that this man may not have checked the boiler properly. Plus all the previous inspections ticked the N/A box for flame detection device - and I now notice the this guy has not carried out a flue test, which all the others did! I know that I can get the guy back and/or report him to Corgi, but it could have cost me a few hundred quid for an unnecessary new gas fire and more to the point, this guy could be jeopardising someones life.

    Engineer (Wikipedia)

    Technician (Wikipedia)

I suggest that you are a technician - and there is nothing wrong in that.

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.
  • Phone corgi its that easy it will put your mind at rest they will be able to give you the advice that you require.Personally with my experiances of gas installations all I have in my flats now are a heating boiler and gas cooker that makes it simple and I get very little trouble with them!!.Ive had loads of problems with fires and open flued appliances - some of them where installed by BG so dont take their word for gospel they are only humans too!!
