Hi guys, I've had my phone for about 9 months but in that time iv lost it once and had it replaced due to it being faulty. the last week i left it on the train on the way home from work so i claimed again. Now i seem to have lost it again ( i'm never normally this bad at losing things ) I only claimed last week and i'm worried of what they will say. Is there a limit on how many times that i can claim for a lost phone?

  • Yes, you can only claim once in a calender month and up to 3 claims max in a 12 month period. Anything over that is careless imo. sorry
  • Hi Marc5180,

I can clarify this for you.

In the terms of the Vodafone Cover Me Insurance, you are entitled to 1 claim per calendar month period. Any incident of loss or theft of the phone must be reported to Vodafone within 24 hours of the incident for the claim to be valid and accepted.

For malicious loss or damage, the time limit is 48 hours to contact the police and obtain a crime reference number to give to Vodafone. For accidental damage you must contact us within 7 days of the incident.

Once reported to us you then have to speak with the claims administrators which we can put you in touch with when you call to make your claim.

I've had quite a few in store and they have been rejected because Insurance thinks the people are being fraudulent if they try and claim twice in a month or even two months. These people had to buy their phones themselves if they wanted a replacement.

Because they can see the IMEI on the unbilled calls, they will be able to see that you haven't used it since the day you actually lost it, so you can't pretend you lost it one month later. I think it actually depends on the person you speak to at Insurance whether they believe you or not, I have know there has been exceptions to the rule but only in rare cases.

I think you have to wait 31 days until you can claim again and like I said, they might not accept the claim at all for the above reasons.

    Hi

I work for the administrators, its bad news im afraid you wont be able to claim again.

These people saying you can wait till the next month are wrong, that defeats the whole point of a one claim/month clause. You could try claiming for this phone in December 2008 but at the end of the day the INCIDENT DATE is still going to be January where you have already had one valid claim.

And yes there are ways of checking such as your IMEI usage and the fact you will have barred the sim card in January. Sorry to be harsh but i guess you'd want the truth.

Your best bet in my opinion would be to see if Cust. Services can arrange a discounted h/s for you, you'll probably be made to go through the claim details and be declined until they can talk to you but ive known cases where we have declined people and c/s have offered discounting on a new h/s or something along those lines, maybe HopefullyUseful can guide you a bit more on that as i dont work for VF, i work for the insurance administrators as I said

Hope this helps (well not helps) but settles your query!
  • It would be worth contacting Customer Services on 08700 700 191 (191 free of charge from your mobile) and asking if there are any discounted handsets available at present. They will also be able to provide you with a new Sim card.

Can I just check did you get the handset suspended? Even though it lost as opposed to stolen it's best to get it suspended to prevent any unauthorised use, you will be liable for any calls made if you didn't request it to be suspended.

Yes i got the phone blocked straight away, guess that will teach me to look after things better.
  • Beware Vodafone Insurance. If the phone you have is not in stock with Vodafone then they will not replace it like for like – and there’s a £25 policy excess.
I was mis-sold this policy a year ago when I sought to ensure that my Vodafone supplied Nokia 8800 Sirocco would be insured. I was not made aware that when Vodafone chose to drop the Nokia flagship phone from their range my phone would no longer be covered. I have had to accept the lesser and chavvy 8600 Luna.
I am appalled that Vodafone have left me without sufficient insurance whilst still claiming a very high monthly premium and I have now cancelled the mis-sold policy.
The whole claim has cost me over £100 in premiums, 2x 50mile trips to a Vodafone store and over £25.00 in calls to Vodafone (AFTER using my hours of inclusive minutes). A goos as new Sirocco on Ebay currently costs approx £210.
My contract of over £50 per month (which often tops £100 per month and has been over £400 per month) is up in approx four months. I have been a Vodafone customer since August 2002.
