Sunday - set up my own spending diary spreadsheet to make sure I stay within my budget.
I had a lovely day out in the fresh air and sunshine, cycling on a local cycle track with my friend, who doesn't often get to cycle and really wanted to. Spent £12 on bike hire and £3.50 on a cream tea...... neither of which have a category in my budget, so they will both have to come under 'food' (hmm....) = £15.50 spent on a day with a friend out in the sunshine - she enjoyed it, I enjoyed it. Beans on toast for a week to make up the deficit then? I shouldn't have had the cream tea really - I could have waited - I could have taken more sandwiches with me. It was nice though!
The bike hire was worth every penny (so was the cream tea).
Bad budgeting though ...... excuses, excuses :o
    Will do better tomorrow.

    Hi bountiful!

I'm just home from a cycle ride too - I went to a local park with a duck pond with my son.

Could you and your friend get bikes on freecycle? Then you could cycle whenever you want for free.

Hey - good old bikes, eh?! I would never rent a bike myself normally - I cycle all over the place. But my friend lives 20 miles away and doesn't have a bike and doesn't want one as she doesn't cycle very often (and she could afford to buy one if she wanted one). The cycle trail is too far away from me for me to cycle there and then go for a cycle ride (if you see what I mean) then cycle home again. It was a one off - and I did it because I value her friendship and enjoy her company. I don't have a car, so I can't take my bike anywhere without spending money on the train or something. My best plan is to move to live nearer my friend!

Hello! Sometimes friendship requires a bit of spending - well worth it for a lovely day too. Hope things are going well and you feel a bit better about the money stuff.

Monday - £2 spent on an ice-cream with 3 service-users - I couldn't claim it on expenses because we are only allowed £3.50 a day and I'd spend £2.30 in the morning on a coffee and cookie with a service user.... £1.60 for an ice cream (organic cornish yummy cornet) and 40p for a plastic cup of icy cold orange squash whilst I was at Kwikfit waiting for tyres to be fitted on the work-vehicle. I suppose I could have gone without the ice cream and sat and watched three people eating theirs (i don't think so.....) and the orange squash - well I should have charged the service user because I only got it for her really, and she only wanted half - it's tricky being a support worker!

My rent cheque has cleared from Halifax - so tomorrow I can send off the letters to them (overdraft, loan and credit card!) - I am feeling much better now I have taken the action - and with the information from national debtline. Now I have to wait for the replies!

    Hi bountiful

You are doing so well, taking control of everything.

I have done a couple of MSE things recently and it feels great to be doing something instead of just reading things and thinking that's a good idea, and then not doing anything about it!

You are an inspiration to me - keep up the good work!

Today I went all day without spending - but had to buy some household supplies on the way home: food and toilet paper. With BOGOFs I managed to save £6.97! I got BOGOFs on cheese, toilet paper and veggie burgers - and then 'treated' myself to non-Elsanta strawberries at £2.99 (reduced from £3.99) [as opposed to Elsanta at £1.99 (reduced from £2.99) - don't I make my life complicated!?
