Selling my car..what do you think?

Afternoon all my fellow DFWs,
I would appreciate if you could pass an opinion on this for me please..
I have a y reg 2001 Vauxhall Zafira. DTI diesel car 142000 miles on the clock. It was my taxi....it has had 2 owners since new...has a full vauxhall service history will have 12 months MOT and TAX on it.
I've obviously had to keep it immaculate as it was my taxi.
I looked on Autotrader putting the details in mileage etc..and it said private sale £3795....
I thought I'd put it on at £3500....my question is do you think that is a alright price.Secondly what is the best way to sell a car..is it Autotrader?
And thirdly...if I get said price...would you (a) pay it off the credit cards these are on 0% until december...(b) finish having your house double glazed...or..(c) put it in your offset mortgage to cut the interest you are paying on your mortgage
I would appreciate all your input...thanks Taxi xx

  • Hi Taxi,

I think that's a pretty good price, you could always check out the book price for the car in those Palmers guides you can get, just to check if you're still unsure.

Auto Trader is as good a place as any, and if you place the ad online too, it reaches loads more ppl. I've always looked there first.

As for the money, I'd get the house double glazed, adds value to the house and cuts down on some household bills hopefully :)

I think that's a reasonable price, you'll probably have to come down a bit to do a 'deal' unless you are very lucky. I used a combination of Autotrader online and the magazine - there was a deal on for 3 weeks in both when I sold a car not long back. I used Fish4 Cars and only had 1 enquiry. the classified section of your local paper on cars day will probably get you some quick enquiries.

  • hiya re price etc im clueless but i have just sold my car, i put in trader and didnt get a single call and it was £40, i then put as a classified ad on ebay and it cost me £12.99 and sold within a week for full asking, and that price is for 28 days and you can add up to 12 large pictures.

Thanks for your input so far ...I'm trying to gauge whether the price is about right as well as the way in which to spend the money.E bay is a no no for me as I don't have a clue how to use it( am a technophobe) but that is a reasonable selling fee.
I will probably use autotrader then and I don't mind having to knock a little off...it's a shame for it to sit here not getting used and I don't know whether people will be put off by the mileage but it's in tip top condition as we have a srtict liscensing policy and rightly so. So is less of a risk to anyone IYSWIM...
Still appreciate anyone elses input as well as the more the merrier..thanks
  • Don't be worried about using ebay, I used to think it was so complicated and put off selling stuff. Don't know what I was worried about, it so simple!

Have you maybe got someone at work that would be able to help you? If you take some photos of car on digital camera then you should be able to do listing in ten mins max.

    Good luck! ;)

Only that it seems a good price to me, based on what we bought our 2002 Zafira for a couple of years ago.

As for the milage - I think condition and service history is just as important, so you should be fine.

finally - with the dosh, do whatever makes you "feel" best! Your heart will tell you what to do with the money once you get it xxx

    Hiya
We've always sold our cars through auto trader and they usually sell through the online autotrader. If you think you can pay the 0% credit cards off without this money then i'd use the money for one of the other options. Otherwise can you put the money in the offset until December and then take it out and pay the cards?

We also put cars up for slightly more than we want so that we can drop the price. We always buy cars with a high mileage as they tend to be a bit cheaper and we do very low mileage so it soon evens out.

    Good luck selling your car.
