  • hi i've got a dti 51 plate 114000 miles
this happened to me just prior to xmas we had to replace the starter motor.
    probably worth checking.
  • hello all just spoken to my hubby about the astra and he said that the engine does turn over there is a smell of diesel glow plugs were checked and tested fine there are no obvious signs of a fuel leak any where however the vehicle was placed on tech2 and now the only fault lodged in the ecu is (no engine rpm signal)prior to getting edu(electronic diesel control module)changed he spoke torac technical help line and they informed him that it was a common fault for that particular engie diesel module to pack up any help would be helpful-- thanks
  • Crack the injector lines open at the injectors and turn the engine. That will prove the presence of fuel. Very quick and simple test.

Check for fuel leaks, if the car has plastic belly pans the fuel may be puddling in those so you wouldn't see it on the drive.

Suggest you ask here, CP sensor is the obvious fault but you've done that.

  • thanks "pewpewpew" will try what you suggest and have a look at the link you gave , will just have to keep checking on this thread for more suggestions as car is still not running.
  • Hi there..

Just a couple of questions about my 1.7 Astra..

When I'm driving straight the steering wheel is not aligned straight.. just wondered what it would cost to fix this sort of thing?

Secondly, it's started to make a slight squeaking noise from time to time, usually when accelerating.. this happen's from time to time and concerns me slightly. Any ideas what this may be?

Was the crank shaft sensor a new one? Let us know if you see diesel spurting out of the injector nuts when you open them a bit (good idea).

Good news that you have not changed the ECU afterall.

You might have to take it to a local auto electrician
    for diagnosis.

That's because at some point some muppet changed the tracking on your vehicle without locking the steering wheel. You need to ask a garage or tyre fitting station to adjust your tracking with the steering wheel locked into the correct (straight ahead) position should cost between £20 - £30.

    Your wife/gf earring? :D

Dunno, it could be anything, try to narrow down the source, or record it for us to hear.
  • Cheers.. I'll get the tracking sorted then perhaps enquire with 1 or 2 garages about the squeaking/whistling sounds. Hoping it's not gonna cost too much!

the squeeking will be a loose or worn out auxilliary/ fan / 'v' belt,or whatever you like to call it.
    ...work permit granted!
  • Took it to a garage.. tracking's absolutely fine.. steering wheel needs realigning but it's not essential so I'll skip it (apparently it's pricey due to the airbag system and such being installed there).

As for the squeaking/whistling, I described and he told me not to worry too much and that if it worsened to go back and see him.

The car's not long had a service and just passed an MOT so I shouldn't think it'd be anything too tragic.
