Find biggest glass jug or bowl i can - fill with rice or pasta - add water to cover and a bit more - stick in microwave for 15 - 20 mins. Its done.

However i am interested in that TEfal 4 in 1 rice cooker(SC, porrige, rice and steamer) Does anyone have 1 ? would you recommenr the £50 Lakeland are charging 4 it??

I have it (see my post early in the thread).

I would recommend it highly (at the moment it is cooking black eye beans that I soaked overnight-usd the rice setting to boil them for the 10 mins then it is now slow cooking for the rest of the day). I have ttried all the settings and developed flexibility in how I use it- you can't just leave the porridge though, you do need to stir near the end to stop it sticking.

I paid the full wack in Lakeland and would do so again- the cdustomer service on something this expensive is important to me-more so than getting it for afiver or so less on line.

The Tefal 3-in-1 rice cooker that I have has stopped working properly. It shuts off after about 15 minutes on the slow cooking and keep warm modes, and can't be restarted for up to half an hour. As a test, I left it on standby, before any heating mode is selected, and it shut off after about 6 minutes. Haven't fully tested what happens when rice cooking or steaming but seems to start okay.

Has anybody ever had this problem? If so, was the cause of the fault discovered and was it able to be repaired?

Tefal customer services have offered about a third off the £50 retail price of a 4 in 1 cooker. I'm thinking a professional repair is likely to cost more than that. Btw, I've had the rice cooker for over 3 years, used daily, firstly as a rice cooker then as a slow cooker.

The brown crust is a common feature of all rice cookers to a degree, if it is a crust as you describe it means you are putting too little water.

Getting the water to rice ratio right is a bit of an art, but it is typically constant for a particular brand of rice so if you change brand experiment a bit.

As a rule of thumb I tend to cover the rice with at least 1cm of water and make sure you put adequate salt.
I saw these and did wonder- though with Aldi if they don't do what they should htey are generally quite good at refunding...

I bought a £19.99 "cheapy" named brand from Lakeland after Xmas- it was "OK" cooked the rice but left a "crust" of burnt yuk on the base that you had to avoid...I returned it and bought the 4in 1 tefal (rice cooke/steamer/porridge/slow cooker). It is awesome and I use it daily, often 2xday (porridge in the morning and rice or steam at night) with occ slow cooking as well. It was  £39.99 though...

I do love my rice cooker and use it a lot (trying to get back to SW now so very good for this). It cooks the loveliest brown basmati rice. Not sure if the aldi one would be up to much but as long as "it is burning the rice it there must be a problem" sounds a reasonable reason to return it I think you'd be OK to risk £10...
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !
