Rice cookers - yes or no

I cook rice with the microwave oven.
It is perfect every time!0 -
I couldn't resist a bargain and bought the Argos one for £9.99.
Used it this evening for the first time - easy peasy, rice perfect, and very easy to clean as well. No nasty crust on the bottom of the pan which I was worried about. Much less messy than cooking rice on the hob, and I'm now researching other recipes which can be cooked in a rice cooker.
I'd recommend it if you've got a tenner to spare, and the space for it.0 -
How long does the rice take in the rice cooker, and how long does it stay warm for please?January Grocery 11/3740

All these cookery writers who tell you to measure out small amounts of water and wait for it to be absorbed just make an easy job complicated.
Not more complicated really ,but gives a nicer texture.
Got this from a TV chef and it works EVERY time.:j
1 cup of rice.. 2cups of BOILING water.
Throw into a warm pan( to stop the pan cooling the boiling water)
put on the lid and simmer for 15 min..
Do NOT lift the lid.... till 15 min is up..
Perfect every time and lighter fluffier then drained rice..“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

The instructions say that it depends on the amount of rice and the type of rice. 4 cups (which looks a small amount, but is big when cooked) took 20 minutes, and then it says you should leave the lid on for 15 minutes to allow the process to finish. After that, I gave the pot a big stir, and served about 15 minutes later again. Apparently though, the rice cooker will keep it warm for up to 12 hours. A really simple gadget, that seems to work well, and is easy to clean.0 -
I love my rice cooker! My mum bought me the Tefal Automatic rice cooker and I wouldn't be without it now. It's quick and easy to use and I've slso poached pears in it. I haven't tried porridge though, so that'll be my next experiment.Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0

I quite like rice "a dente" (?spelling), where every grains separates, nothing sticky.
For certain recipes, though, such as paella or kedgeree, I leave it longer to absorb flavoured stock and let it go "fluffy".
Still don't need a rice maker0 -
Hi there!
Don't know if you've bought the rice cooker yet (just had quick read through, maybe I missed something)
I cook rice in my electric steamer and it comes out perfect every time. The steamer came with a plastic dish (I think especially for rice). You just chuck in rice, cover with water, pinch of salt, timer on for 25 mins. You also of course need water in the bottom part where it usually goes.
I got the steamer for christmas and it sat in the cupboard for about a year. Then I figured out how to use it and now use it all the time!0
