Hi all, I need a new central heating system have just had my 1st quote wanted to see what you thought.
I need a new boiler(as mine is 30+yrs old and incredibly noisy and extremley expensive to run) New flu as we're going from a boiler to a combi boiler and our flu is out of date (or something!?) two water tanks taken out and disposed off ,new rads throughout the house as mine don't have fins, also i have NO heating in any of my 3 bedrooms so that has to be put in(ie floors up and new pipework etc) one rad in louge is to be moved and a second put in.
1st plumber has quoted approx £3600 i've just had a second quote but it hasn't arrived in post yet and third plumber is coming out on sat. The 1st plumber didn't give me any idea how long it would take, the second said around 4 days.
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appriciated.

I'm in aberdeen.
Just before xmas I had very similar work done.
Old back boiler and 2 tanks ripped out. New flue installed. New combi boiler installed. New radiators and piping in upstairs as there was none before, new rads downstairs(7 rads in total) plus a power shower fitted.
We paid £3400 for all of that, I think it was about 2800 for the heating part and 600 for the shower.
We had 2 guys in doing it and it took them 3.5 days to complete the work. We were without heat and hot water for 2 of those days.0 -
Expect to pay upward of £250+vat per day per plumber for decent plumbers in the SE, so that quote seems about right, including parts etc.0

Good evening: Which boiler has been specified in your quotes? Do your quotes include:
1. flushing of central heating system and addition of inhibitor
2. Notification of installation to Building Control
3. Completion of Benchmark Log
4. Removal of all waste associated with the installation
5. Programmable room stat
6. Copper or plastic pipework
7. Making good
8. thermostatic radiator valves
Get at least 3 written, fully itemized quotations (not estimates) from CORGIs (check registration/qualifications here www.trustcorgi.com ) recommended to you by a source you trust. Timeframe for completion will vary i.e site requirements, number of installers, standard of work etc. For more information on the specification and installation of gas central heating systems visit the Energy Saving Trust http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/uploads/documents/housingbuildings/ce30.pdf
My OH is a CORGI in East Kent so based on the spec you have been quoted I could give a rough idea of what you should expect to pay.

Why don't you buy the equip yourself and just pay for installation. I done this and saved a hell of a lot of money. got mine from a site called https://www.theheatingshop.co.uk
but there are many sites that sell this sort of stuff.0 -

I agree with all of the above. You can buuy cheaper materials from www.mrcentralheating.com but you'll have to ask your installer if he/she is willing to install this way. Most wont take the added responsibility.
A good site for further information is www.newboiler.co.uk
It allows you to build your own quote and to compare like for like quotes online.
Goodluck and let us know how you get on.0
