Nationwide Debit Card Question.

Just some clarification:
1. Visa is electronic payment network that is used by different banks. Other networks are Mastercard (including Cirrus and Maestro), Swithch (Solo), Amex ..
2. Big 16-digits number on the debit card is used only for purchases and ATMs.
Debit card is always linked to some current account. Number of the account (usually 10 digits) and sorting code (6 digits xx_xx_xx) are usually shown at the bottom with smaller digits. This account number and sort code are used to pay money into the linked current account. Some debit cards are different. For example, A&L debit card does not show sorting code and shows account number with one extra leading digit.
For credit cards 16-digit number (big digits) can be used sometimes to pay money to your credit card account, but only as a reference.
It is not clear from your posts how you tried to make money transfer to your flexaccount. Hence, it is difficult to say who made a mistake and who is responsible. Only if it was HSBC's mistake you can complain and count on some temporary refund while mistake is being corrected.0 -
Grumbler.....Mrs Dunkyboy asked for £700 to be taken from her hsbc current account an put into our NW flex account, she handed over her Debit card which had all the details of the account.
We think that hsbc have put this money into a different account using the big 12 digit number across the middle of the card. It is our thoughts that the hsbc operator thought that the card was a credit card and not a Debit card.
We have NO other account with the NW
The question is how can we get this money back?
The flex account shows Zero, confirmed by NW. Where is the money, and how can we get it back.
any thoughts anyone. Not ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j0 -
I corrected my post: big number is 16-digit, but not 12-digit
. This dosn't mater though.
It can take up to 4 working days for money to reach your NW account. If you still don't have this money on this account after 4 working days it looks like HSBC operator made some mistake. I'd ask HSBC to investigate this and to refund the money immediately. If you need to move money to NW promptly and you have NW branch nearby the fastest way to do this is just to withdraw money (daily limit) in the NW branch with HSBC card and to deposit it to the NW account over a counter.0 -
Situation resolved, :j
NW have sorted it out,
HSBC were frankly USELESS, i have been a customer for 30 years, and it mattered not one jot.
I am considering moving accounts from hsbc after my Hols, but just a few things at a time so as to keep an eye on them, the thought of moving lock stock and barrel in one fell swoop doesn't bear thinking of, (the mess you could end up in)
Thanks for all your help, you have made a differenceNot ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j0
