Talk Talk only charge 6p a minute and 6p connection to call 0871 (G12) Numbers just like BT does.
See page 10 of thisTalk Talk pricing pdf. http://media.phonehouse.com/mediaserver/servlet/AssetServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.TERMS.PDFS&asset=TARIFF_PRICE_PDF
So i would suggest you might want to use one of these and 1899 sister company www.18185.co.uk at weekends as they also offer cheaper 0870 calls should you need to make any.:D
Or if you cant be bothered with access numbers you could add their Talk Mobile Extra for 45p a month, which will reduce the cost of mobile calls to 9p a minute peak and 5.25p offpeak.

Also Talk Talk will allow you to set up a discountcalling circle for regularly dialed mobile numbers by 10%.

Which i understand if you add this to Talk Mobile discount reduces the costs of calls to mobile numbers in the calling circle to 7.8 peak and 4.55 offpeak.0 -

:j This is brilliant thank you so much. I have just changed my calling plan to Talk 3 plus - this is an additional £5 per month and gives me 100 minutes of free mobile calls to any network (works out 5p per minute, no connection charge).
I will use this during the week if i have to call a mobile, as I know we will use over 100 minutes (2 teenagers!!!) and then 18185 for weekends and for any 08 numbers I need to call ( why don't companies put both their 0845 numbers AND a normal landline number!!! )
I am also going to set up the discount calling circle for the regualr dialed numbers and save another 10%! Whoo Hoo, part one of my money makeover sorted!:rotfl:
Again, thanks for this, I hope it helps someone else too!

According to their site you only get 60 minutes of inclusive mobile calls (not free calls
)for the extra £5,not 100.

If this is correct the calls cost 8.33p a minute.0 -

Doh! :rolleyes2 Sorry, I meant the Talk 3 TOTAL not plus, which is £7 pm extra and is 100 minutes (7p per minute), so not free but still cheaper than I was paying and still cheaper than 18185 except at weekends, so will use that then (3p per min + 5p connect at weekends).

Hi I've tried to follow this thread, but am getting very confused!!
I pay AOL Talk £24.99 a month for free calls and broadband. I need to ring USA as a one off (to make dinner reservations for my Disney trip). I rang AOL who said they would charge me £2 a minute(!!!). I have tried to understand all the free calls and 1p a minute calls with an access number, but will I get charged an extortionate amount by AOL to dial their number? I have had to bar calls to mobiles and 0900 numbers as my bills were coming in at £100 a month ish(kids - don't you luv'em!)
Help!
I've just had a thought - would it be easier to go round to my mums and use her phone?!0 -
I have tried to use the Talktalk over ride number of 0844-747-8020, supposedly for 2p a minute, when dialling national numbers from home on the land line during the day time. Every time I use it, I get the message, re-dial and enter the correct national code. I then enter the "0" or "+" button and the full number, but again, I am told I have not entered the correct country code. What is the correct code for England? I have tried "044", "0" and "+" before the full number without success. In order to phone a national number within the UK, I am told to dial 0844-747-8020-(country code)-then the full telephone number. I have tried it all ways without success, any suggestions please. Cheers, Woodville.0

Why not try one of the ½p or 1p per minute gateway providers in the MSE UK Callchecker instead?
BTW, a UK number in international format excludes the leading zero of the STD code. Hence 01234 567890 would be 00 44 1234 567890.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Their are numerous cheaper call suppliers to UK Geographical Numbers.
