How to choose between universities

  • I can definatly agree, Stathclyde is the best in scotland for EEE, proven fact, the EEE dept are so proud of! The Union is also very good, and the campus is right in the city center so its perfect for commuters, and the halls are right in the center of campus so perfect for people who want to move away also.

I have only every experienced the Comp Science, and EEE staff and they are all very knowledgable and very helpful, maybe not though emails, but if you go see them they are very helpful.

Also the EEE and Comp Sci both have their own departmental computer labs which is a BIG plus, because the other labs get so busy, plus we get free printing in those labs too.

Strathclyde is good, i like it anyway.

its a great uni, biggest union in scotland (maybe britain?, 99p drinks on tfi nights too)

Do you mean in terms of students or physical size of the building? If you mean students I'm fairly sure Manchester is the biggest as it has over 30,000 students I believe.

Definitely visit and ask questions. For example what do most of their graduates do in the first two years after graduating? What are they earning? What links do the department and university have with employers? Basically how is this degree worth it?

Also look at welfare. Who does your son go to if he has a problem? What support is there? What about on campus bullying, what would happen then? What if he's ill and has to take time of the course, what support will he get?

What opportunities are there in the city? What jobs can he get? What societies can he join? What is the NUS like?

The answers to these questions should help.

I had 2 offers, I only applied to 2. One for Sussex which has a fab reputation and one for Portsmouth which is not as good as Sussex from what I understand, however I chose Portsmouth for me it had so much more to offer, location, location location! Plus the ppl were really down to earth that I came into contact, Part of me does wonder.. But I really did not like the location of susses it made me really uneasy in lots of ways, so my advice if follow your heart. Oxford would not be for me but it would be nice to be asked..
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
