The delay is that the DVLA have to write to the previous owner to confirm that they have sold the vehicle and it's not just someone pulling a fast one - if the previous owner does not respond promptly they have to wait a set length before they can issue the new V5

7 weeks now and nothing has turned up. any1 have a number to call to chase.
  • I was about to buy a scooter for my son but the seller says he does not have (and never has had) the new V5C, only the old V5. If I go ahead with the purchase is this going to cause me problems or should I get the seller to send off for the V5C before I buy?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

    Sam.

Won't cause you probelems, the DVLA are still accepting old V5's at the moment, if you want to tax it, use the old V5/2-completed with your new keeper details, a V10, insurance and an MOT if over 3 years old.

If you don't want to tax it, take the V5/2 to the Post Office, complete a V62, and they will send off for a V5C, with no charge, you should always get a receipt from the Post Office as well.

Remember to declare SORN as soon as you put the bike into your name if you are not taxing it.

lastly before purchasing the bike, check that the full details on the old V5 match exactly with the actual bike.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. The bike is taxed until next February and was MOT'd in January. One question, I am assuming that the seller will send off the existing V5 filled in with the new owner details and give me the tear off slip from the bottom of it. If this is the case then presumably I just wait for the new V5C to drop through the letterbox.

    Thanks again

    Sam.

Yes.....if he/she does send off the top bit of the V5!

You should have a new V5C within 3 weeks then.
