Floor and wall tiling

MFI are fitting my new kitchen and their contracted workperson has quoted me £35 per square metre for floor and wall tiling. Is this a reasonable amount? This does not include the tiles.

yes, quite reasonable. - I would charge this or more0

If you can and fancy a challege, why not attempt it yourself? It really isnt as difficult as it seems. Pop along to ToppsTiles, grab one of their DVDs and off you go! Fair enough, it will take you a bit longer to do than a workperson, but you'll save £35 persqmtr!Whatever You're Into, Get Into Shisha0

I am a tiler and assuming that it is an average sized kitchen it will take one day for the walls,
and one day for the floor,
as a rough guideline without seeing it ,I would charge around £400-£450 including adhesive grout trim silicon and labour total
hope this helps

Is that just you on the job? Do you earn £200 per day? Not knocking you just thinking of the career advice I could give to my family;)~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

PS by the time you have watched the video of dave the bal tiling instructor from stoke ( no offence Dave but some of the tecniques in the video are a bit slow these days )
and bought a cheap wall adhesive spreader,grout float,tile cutter,spacers,
nippers, floor adhesive spreader, knee pads, mixing trowel, bucket to mix the grout in,
broke half a dozen tiles ,started on the floor from the wrong place mixed floor adhesive and both grouts to thick/thin paid top whack for said materials take a week to do it hhmmm seems like an expensive way to do it to me
But hey im biased
good luck0 -

Not such a hot number then cos being self employed you have to pay tax, ni and insurance etc out of that. Plus you might not get a full weeks work every week and holidays will be unpaid.
Loved your description of a DIY tiler. My OH is like that with all DIY tasks. I think we have the most gardening gadgets in the whole of Wales and the worse garden:eek: . i.e. yesterday morning at 10 am I strimmed the front lawn (fair size), cut the hedges, pruned a couple of small trees and mowed the lawn. All done by 12pm. OH was supposed to be strimming back lawn (double size of front) while I mowed front. Instead he decided to cut the hedges (cos he likes the hedge trimmer). 2pm drinking coffee admiring his hedges. 3pm finally starts strimming the lawn and by 5pm he has finished mowing the lawn.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Poppy I dont wish to sound rude but I have just realised that the original question
was about a quote and was it fair ! I am trying to spread a bit of help to people.
then realised that i had spent 30 mins answering your thread and defending myself !
so I checked some of your other posts ( please dont take this personally) but most seem to be to have a chat, and not to help answer the questions that are asked ?
I am sure its well intentioned, but there are chat rooms available all over the net.
Thanks Steve0 -
Tilemeister,
Welcome to mse.
The nature of these forums is such that from time to time, threads do wander off topic. If I ever feel that a thread on this board is going too far off topic, then I will rectify the situation.
