  • Just a brief, and probably useless, thought - there is such a thing as Charter Standards. If you can make your query a "Charter Standard issue" then your question/s HAVE, by law, to be answered/settled within 40 days I think it is.

Have a look around and see what lurks in the undergrowth - you never know ...

Complaints about other benefits can be investigated by the Parliamentary Ombudsman or, in Northern Ireland, by the Northern Ireland Ombudsman. To use the Parliamentary Ombudsman you will first have to contact your MP or a Member of your local Authority. You can also complain about tax credits to the Parliamentary or Northern Ireland Ombudsman, but the ombudsman would expect the complaint to have been investigated by the adjudicator for HM Revenue and Customs first.
For more information about the Ombudsman, in England, see How to use an ombudsman in England, in Wales, see How to use an ombudsman in Wales, in Northern Ireland, see How to use an ombudsman in Northern Ireland or in Scotland, see How to use an ombudsman in Scotland.
If you want help in contacting your MP, you can ask an experienced adviser, for example, at a Citizens’ Advice Bureau. To search for details of your nearest CAB, including those that can give advice by email, click on nearest CAB.[NOT links, just can't change the colour!]<<

  • hi all im new on here i have been recieving tax credits from the yr 2004 and a week gone monday they stopped my payments so i rang to ask y and they said i hadnt sent in the renewal form for the yr 05/06 and would be recieving a letter in the post...... i got this letter infact i got 2 and they said they have overpaid me and i owe them £6802.08 for the yr 06/07 and £6778.80 for the yr 07/08. now i have an appointment in 2 weeks time with citizens advice but in the mean time leaves me with no money other than my wages at the end of the month and 2 kids under 5 yrs of age and a house to look after..... what do u suggest
  • I have just received a letter to say I've been overpaid by £4,500 in a 6 month period - that's £750 per month whilst working in an 8am - 2pm job. When I called them up today they said that this amount was correct but it was a mistake on their behalf and they are sorry.

I said that I was sorry now that have slapped me with a bill for £4,500 as I now have to find money to pay it back - funny that I don't seem to remember noticing an extra £750 a month in my wages

I'm off the CAB on Monday in the hope that someone can help me work it out because the WFTC Office can't seem to!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise, my partner has moved in with me and I called WFTC office to let them know, they have now sent me out new forms to complete as a couple and in another envelope a bill for £450 that is what I had apparently been overpaid in 2005. I was aware in their opinion I have been overpaid and up to now they have been taking money out of my credits I have been receiving, but to now ask for £450 direct payment I cannot manage. I have alway given them correct information and updated them always promptly with any changes.
    I would welcome any advise!

as your single claim is ceasing, the overpayment will move into direct recovery youll be able to get 12 months time to pay without any problems.

Thanks for your advise, I have no problems paying it as I am fully aware you can never win when it comes to tax, I have always been undr the impression whatever you are given they take back with the other hand  I will see if I give them a call if I can pay a fixed amount each month.

  • I got a letter yesterday saying my ex partner & I were overpaid on joint claim before we seperated for 03/04 by nearly £2500 & they want it back by March 27th or will start enforcement proceedings.

My ex partner died in Dec 05 & I made them aware of this around summer 05. This is the first letter I've received despite them saying they've written before. How can they demand this much money in such a short amount of time - after nearly 4yrs - when i've never been advised before?!

I'm a single working mum who survives on CTCs - no working tax credits or any other benefits.
