Try switching the modem off, router off, modem on, wait 30 secs, router on.

on the xp pc, do a
    start, run, cmd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

will try this initially. Not sure whether all the settings will have messed up cause I've been desperatly trying to get this sorted without help.

    be back online shortly.
  • make your router clone your laptop's mac address on the wan port.

Not sure how to or what you mean. Will try it anyway if the other advise dosen't work.

    Back back in a moment.

Sorry devil. ICS is Internet Connection Sharing abbreviation.

I see my mac knowlege isnt the best and thought you airport was the laptops wireless card which is named similar.

As weegie said you need to go into the Airport extreme via web browser i presume, login and clone its MAC address to be that of the bundled NTL modem.

Not the mac address of the NTL modem. The NTL modem will be connected to the wan port of the Airport.

You want the wan ethernet port on the airport to pretend it's the ethernet port of the laptop.

I've rebooted and rebooted no joy. I've ran various diagnostics still no joy. Neither mac or PC can connect even tho both computers are receiving airport signal indicating a connection.

I had the same problem on Virgin about 2 months ago, connecting direct to to the Virgin modem by wire worked fine, connecting via my router and no connection, I had the same runaround from CS about them not supporting the router or wireless.

It was only when I escalated to the CEO's Office by email complaint that the problem was solved. (I basically told them I was going to cancel my service if it wasn't resolved ASAP).

One of the staff in the CEO's Office arranged for me to get a new Motorola modem which has worked flawlessly ever since with my router. They even arranged the service visit and make sure it is an experienced technician who came out.

You can actually also speak to virgin in the right department and get them to update the MAC address themselves to that of your airport. This save any confusion in the future.

Problem is the full system was working fine till I telephoned tech support. + it's already cost me a fortune in call charges (which, by hook or by crook I'll be claiming back. Cost me £7 first call and god knows how much for the second call, was on about 20 mins; so much for the 10 min rule they have).

I really need this sorting, I'm at uni and need a wireless connection. I had wok to do this evening, but instead been trying to get this put right.

In the airport setup page devil there should be an option to clone a MAC address.

Some ISP will require you to register your MAC address. If you do not wish to re-register your MAC address, you can have the router clone the MAC address that is registered with your ISP.

In this case its either your desktops MAC address or the laptops.

Like said earlier to find this use ipconfig/all in a command window in windows or for your mac find the airport ID in your network category.

It depended on what you first used at the time.

  • regrettably "blueyonder technical support" and "chocolate teapot" and "one legged man at an !!!! kicking contest" tend all to go together in the same sentence.
