We always stay in Albufeira, loads of good bars in the Old Town, nice big cocktails with enormous straws and sparklers. Mainly families but the younger ones come out after the witching hour. It's noisier on the Strip, which is a road on the outskirts, so suggest you don't stay there. Most of the places we have stayed in have been of a high standard, and I hope you like grilled food, because that is mostly what you will get. What is your budget? Are you looking to stay in a good hotel of self catering.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Villamoura is really nice with a big harbour, lots of fancy yachts and good restaurants around the marina but it is expensive when you are there.

I went to Lagos with my boyfriend last summer. There were plenty of decent places to eat and drink, a gorgeous beach and boat trips to go on. We really enjoyed it!
  • I agree Albufeira is lively seaside town with good night life. Vilamoura is also quite lively has a beautiful marina lovely beaches and good night life. Albufeira is a bit more Blackpool with the sun though, Vilamoura has a little more elegance and is close by to Quinta do Lago (where the rich and famous live/play golf). I lived in Albufeira and in a remote village 20 mins from Albufeira for 3 years and I love the area around there. Any questions on particular areas in the Algarve send me a PM and Id be happy to help.
