    I'd just like to confirm that I have no connection whatsoever with the above company, and merely wish to recommend a good service to other forum users.
  • I unfortunately lost my Ford Fiesta car keys and had to rely on my spare. I contacted the main ford dealer who wanted £25 plus £75 labour plus VAT for a non remote key fob. I shopped around and found Carline at Blackburn who replaced the key fob for £50 inclusive. Service was great, great value and really helpful chap. Couldn't recommend highly enough - Thank you.

    Timpson are currently doing half-price non-remote copy keys. £25 to make one for my 1999 Ford Focus.

    Unfortunately, because the original key is so worn, they've had two attempts and the copy still won't unlock the door or turn in the ignition! I'm sure they'll get it right eventually, and if you're not bothered about an original remote key that must be the cheapest price at the moment.

    If you get caught like this, it is always worth going to your local independant used dealer, the small one with cars up to about £6k.

    These guys know the cheapest and best places to get new keys cut and coded.

    Update on the Timpson experience - they had another couple of goes at getting the copy cut correctly but had to admit defeat. To be fair the original is very rounded and worn and doesn't always turn in one of the locks.

    They said the only solution was to take a lock cylinder from one of the doors so they could read the wafer numbers and cut a matching key. I don't have much experience with working on cars, but will generally have a go a most things. With the help of a Haynes manual I dismantled the passenger door and took them the cylinder. Result, one perfectly working copy key, and the wafer code written down to make any future copies a lot easier! Not how I was planning to spend Sunday afternoon, but always interested to learn something new :-)

    They provided a key blank really well, but I'm struggling to find anyone to cut a duplicate (Timpsons and another one of the big chains (forget their name) refuse to cut onto a blank that isn't theirs and a local independent said they couldn't cut it). I'm in touch with carkeyhelp to see if they can refund me or cut a copy from a picture of my original. Will keep you posted.

    Find a smaller locksmith. I had no issues getting my guy who had been in the market for as long as i can remember.

    Charged me £2 to cut each key i supplied. One was a standard ford blank and the other a Jaguar flip with a Ford blank fitted.
    No issues. Other than the funny look and him saying you have given me a Ford and Jag key. I just said they are the same and he went to cut them.

    I don`t know whether this will help but older Fords ( and Jaguars) used a key called a TIBBE key and these can be "read" depending on the angle of the individual cuts so worn keys shouldn`t be a problem.
