The only other thing I can suggest is remove iTunes from the computer, reset the iPod to it's factory settings, reinstall iTunes, sync the iPod for the first time so it thinks it's new and start again...
Else head on over to: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/macuser/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=14 someone might know here!
thanks for that, have tried it but the ipod just wont even reset to its factory settings! someone has given me a number for the apple store so am gonna try that later this morning, other than that may try a local computer shop then failing those will contact the pr company again whcih i only want to do as a last resort!Weight Loss - 102lb0

How about: http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/reinit.php However only the trial version if free, and I've not heard of it before, someone at MacUser will have the answer I'm sure.0

            hiya
 thanks for that
have just come off the phone from apple support and they were very helpful. they are sending a courier within the next 3 working days to bring returns label and envleope to send the ipod back in. I then send it back and apple will be in touch
thankfully wont have to bother the comp folk again!Weight Loss - 102lb0

It doesn't work like that. Disk mode means you can use it like a flash drive, but it won't see songs you just drag and drop on.Why not just put the iPod into disk mode via iTunes, no extra software needed and you can use it like a hard disc, drag and drop to your hearts content, but not sure why you'd want too, you'd loose all the artist and album indexing previously mentioned...0

That is true which is why I mentioned earlier "you'd loose all the artist and album indexing previously mentioned..." but there are 3rd party packages which allow this (or if you are an advanced user, you probably know how to hack it yourself).
Obviously you can drag and drop anything you like onto an iPod in disk mode, including music and video files, however it won't go into the correct hidden area for music playing.
My favourite two utilities non-iTunes utilities are: TuneJack and MediaMonkey.
 Hope hjb123 get's it fixed soon 0 0

And if you don't know how to hack it yourself, this is a fantastic article:

Using another program to do it is not drag and dropping, despite what you want to think, also, most people won't put a different o/s or firmware on their ipod, so what you're saying doesn't apply.0
