Dreamweaver

Hey all

Not sure whether I'm putting this in the right place, but I'm looking to buy dreamweaver and have been looking around for a good price for it. I'm a student and although you can get a student copy of dreamweaver it's still way out of my price range. I found a website that sells the OEM version and I'm thinking it's a scam and actually selling pirated copies of the software. The company's based in America and I've emailed them about it and I've had no response from them. This is the link: http://www.cheapsoftwaredeal.com/product_details.php?product=6940&cat=3

Anyway, I've also had a look at ebay and found that there are some copies of studio 8 (which include dreamweaver) at a reasonable price. The only problem is I'm not too sure whether to trust this source as I'm worried that I won't be able to install the software on my machine especially if the key code has been used before. Can anybody advise me as to where I could get a good deal on dreamweaver??

Thanks in advance :)

  • Go to microsoft and download visual developer 2008 for free, whilst your there get SQL Express 2005 for free

    http://www.microsoft.com/express/vwd/ - visual developer 2008
http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/default.aspx - scaled down version of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (just less tools)

It is exactly the same as Dreamweaver both a WYSIWYG and RAW code editor.

Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, they're offering software that the manufacturers themselves say are pirate copies if they're offered for download and not on official cd/dvd. And the software is just far too cheap to be explained at all other than pirated copies.

  • I put Discounter Online + Scams into google and found that yes it is a scam. They usually send you the trial version download and no key code so I won't be getting my software from there.

I've had a look Visual developer 2008 and it looks good but if my web site doesn't open in dreamweaver and doesn't work properly then I'll fail my assignment. So I don't really want to chance it at all.

chuckley, you mentioned getting it on the naughty, well for one I don't know anyone to do that, and two it'll just be my luck to get caught!! I've not had much experience with ebay and like I said before I'm a bit worried about doing so.

Has anyone bought any software from ebay? If so have they had any problems or did everything go okay?

Thanks for the advice everyone ;)

If you're using the proper standards etc then I don't see why it wouldn't "open" as website building isn't meant to be application specific. In terms of the actual files that you upload to be hosted you could even edit them with just textpad or something, although presumably you're taking a more wysiwyg approach than coding. Anyway there's no harm in installing it on your PC and having a play around in the meantime. I've actually got it installed myself but too busy to get around to trying it out (I can't resist those big freebie applications ).

1st thing that happens when you try the download from Microsoft (as suggested by GingerTom) is they ask you do install Silvelight. Before getting clasped more closely to MS's bosom, question: Do Visual Developer created sites run well on Linux/PHP/MySQL servers? Or at least on Linux hosting?

Not that Im advising you to do the same but heres what I do... (lol)

Im an art student and about 75% of my course have macs. All of us have the full CS3 for free. One student gets it off the internet on the naughty and then distributes copies. This then gets passed on and on and on.

On my whole course no one has bought a single peice of legal software this year.... So maybe if you ask around?

But as I said, Im not reccomended this atall :P

From my experience yes. I have written and modifed php code in Visual Web Developer 2008 the only thing is you can not run it in debug mode and you wont have things like intellisense.

Buy it from an authorised Adobe education reseller for the discounted price, such as https://www.jigsaw24.com

More info on education pricing and education resellers from https://www.adobe.com

Don't touch that link you postd with a bargepole.

Although Visual Studio is excellent for code design and some design work, it is no match for Dreamweaver for rich and intensively graphically designed websites. Dreamweaver is the market leader for a reason.

If you are studying at Uni or College, they may also have higher education discounts from their IT services for students, ask and find out.

    Don't pirate it as suggested!
  • Thanks for the advice isofa :) I had a look on the link you suggested but again a little bit too pricey and way out of my price range.

I have been doing a little searching on ebay and found the same version the uni uses for £18 which I'm gonna take my chances on and buy, I only hope it's ligit!!!

I don't really want a pirated copy of dreamweaver because I just know that I'd be one of the unlucky ones to get caught.

I've downloaded Visual Studio and tbh I think Dreamweaver to be much better purely because of it's so easy to use. Whether it's because I've got used to Dreamweaver, but I found that I couldn't find half of the stuff that I wanted to do.

Anyways, thanks again for all the advice. I'll let you know if I get this copy of dreamweaver!! :P
