Hi all!
just wandering if anyone can help me decide on a car. Here is a few details:
I have approx £6000 that i can budget in time (hopefully less spent the better though). I am only able to drive in automatic transition (*sp).
Also i am looking for something that is grade 1 insurance if poss and has a decent amount of space as i have a toddler that i would have to get in and out of a car seat and a boot that can fit a stroller in. Also need to take into account any reairs/maintanence costs if they come about.
I was looking into getting an A Class as it would be amazing in terms of size but then i was told it is very expensive to upkeep (maintanence/insurance, etc). Its a shame as i could have pretty easily picked one up for £3,500 but if its n exansive upkeep i wouldnt e able to afford.
Any help would be appreciated as i really dont know much when it comes to this...:o
Thank u!

ok - i'll explain why the sudden need for a car. Basically im trying to go back to work but the journey times including dropping little one at nursery and picking her up without driving would risk me incouring late charges everyday -- and then prob being dropped from the nursery for it. I do have a have a car already (1991 fiesta - my little baby, lol) but as it is so old it konks out alot which is too much hassle. Also as i havent been at work for about 20 months it simply hasnt been used at all as i have never really had to further than into town. So any help would be greatly appreciated as i am really eager to get back into work as soon as poss and have had some great opportunities but cannot take due to the traveling time on 2 busses and a train each way.Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0

Just bought a toyota AYGO, less than one year old for your price range. Group 1 insurance. Benefits from the remaining time on the toyota 3 year warrenty. It has those ISO bars for childrens car seats.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Also Aygo only £35 per year to tax. Not auto box tho - its a manual automatic. Some people don't like them - recommend test drive first.Genie

You are wanting group 1 insurance and have been looking at an A-Class?!
It will be difficult to find a group insurance car with the room you need. The C1, Aygo & 107 are the same car pretty much and I don't think you would have the room you need."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Might be handy to explain what is the difference between Group 1 insurance and A class. People come on here for some help and its great when all the gobble de gook can be spelt out in plain english. Am sure Op be real grateful to you for clarifying it all for her :AGenie

Group 1 refers to an insurance group. A class refers to a model manufactured by Mercedes.0

If your budget is £6k, you could drop it to £4k and still get something decent and use the £2k for insurance/road tax/repairs. I would personally avoid the Merc A though.
Or better still you could drop it more. Even £2k can buy a decentish car these days, then £4k is plenty for insurance etc.
As for suggestions on cars, how about a second hand Suzuki Wagon R+? They're pretty much the same as a Vauxhall Agila.

Thanks Keith!
I was a tad confused for a mo there myself - was there a group of insurance I'd not heard of? In that case, from what you said, I 'd steer clear of Mercedes!:DGenie

As an afterthought....:D
Does it have to be a big 4x4 vehicle? Congestion what it is, lots of vehicles out there - with automatic transmission, that would be more sensible.Genie
