amazing how rude some people can get over a discussion of tinned fruit lol.

i sometimes buy the sliced canned apples... no/very little sugar added, i have them with a tiny bit of granulated sweetner, lots of cinnamon and some custard for a lower fat 'hot' pudding. our cooker costs a fortune to run (we have a prepaid meter and watch the money run down while cooking  ) so it most likely works out cheaper.

and i don't give a damn if you think i'm 'lazy'. i'm sure there's things you use that other people would consider lazy too, unless you grow, process, and pack all your own food.

    .
But this is what happens with forums, where you are not face to face, light-hearted chat and banter, or a little chuckle can be sadly mistaken for rudeness, or harshness. :o And some people offend easily. But some people are also intentionally rude. You should never take it too seriously, each to their own.

The magnets are at the recycling plant!

anyway, tinned fruit, it has its place.

sometimes it is really hard to get hold of certain sorts of fruit even when it IS in season. And if like me you have a craving for tinned fruit due to pregnancy there's no substitute!

Err, exactly my point, you don't know me, can't hear me and have no idea what I mean or meant. I was genuinely surprised people would homebake with this, I have only ever known people bake with produce (I am a farming girl), I did find it funny to think tins are for the disabled, and this was just a chuckle, which I have tried to explain, I am not lying it made me laugh. ( An d I interpreted that comment as sarcastic) I have attempted at great length to insure that my intentions were bought across as genuine, without removing posts. I am not an extremely sarcastic person, and frankly you can think what you like.

So it is ok to expect ordinary people to collect filthy, stinking unwashed tins? And to put on a forum, essentially, 'don't wash your tins, the fact that you need to is a myth' ? The whole tinned fruit, was a harmless little discussion, that (the recycling!)is outrageous. Only the other day the council did not pick up filthy unwashed tins by the roadside, 2 boxes. By the end of the day, they had blown all over the road and pavement. Smelly revolting tins that no one would want to pick up. And the sticker on the side of the boxes? tins/cans unwashed.
Whilst they maybe thoroughly cleaned at the plant, to put them out unwashed is irresponsible and rude to the collection men.

You are entitled to your opinions, and I to mine. If its a harmless discussion why get so outraged ;)

(psst - i even know people who live on ready meals!!!)

using a tin of fruit is not the end of the world. There is another thread about greens pudding mixes disappearing from the shelves. Many OS things are disappearing from the shops, someone just wanted to know if their experience was more widespread.

BTW the rules in your council are clearly different to mine. Clearly if I didn't get my refuse collected because it were dirty i would wash it all.

i hardly use anything in a tin or a packet anyhow, maybe 2 or 3 tins a week, including tomatoes, tuna stuff like that.

They are all different and very random! We are the same, not a lot of tins, ours is mainly full of milk cartons!!! 5 kids equals a lot of milk!! And these really do stink if you don't wash them!Especially as the lids aren't collectable at the same time!

wasn't 'upset' about using the tins, but don't want anymore recycling on the pavements or roads;)

Absolutely agree, and essentially, any kind of fruit is better than no fruit;)
