Spot on - I would rather the place be CLOSED if the toilets cannot be cleaned. That seems a better option than becoming ill from the company's poor hygeine.
how would u become ill from dirty toilets if they wernt checked?

if sum1's just gone in there n pebble dashed, how would u become ill from that when a staff member hadnt checked it?

also its not the company's fault people dont use public toilets properly, their just the ones that have to clean up the mess. if ud close every establishment with dirty toilets there'd be no pubs/restaurants open... as ud have to check after every customer... yea right...

I would definitely have asked to speak to the manager before I left, how do you know the manager knew the toilets were in that state, he possibly didn't.

To be honest though, I would never use those types of pub/eateries..its not good value for money especially when you have Chelsea and Brooklyn running riot...before you say anything I have young children of my own.

I cannot tolerate children running around and screaming whilst I am eating, and food scraps under the table etc, no I'll stick to my homemade cooking, its not great but its far better than the MSG foodstuffs those types of places serve.

Again, Spot On - I've not said it's the company's fault - but it is their responsibility to clean it. Unfortunatley we don't have the systems in place to get the people who cause the mess to clean it!

I won't go into detail about how you become ill but it stems from cross contamination which may involve someone touching a dirty flush, not washing their hands and then them pawing the salard cart - or something. In general though I would consider bad toilet hygine a good pointer to poop hygine elsewhere.

So your implying that we should put up with dirty toilets? "Yea right!"
  • the only way you would become ill from a dirty toilet is if you didnt wash your hands after visiting and that would be your fault not the companys. cross contamination could occur from not washing hands whether the toilets look filthy or look spotless - you cant see bacteria!

i dont think we should put up with dirty toilets but if you dont inform anyone then they cant do anything about it.
i work for Brewers Fayre - we have a cukoo clock in the kitchen which every hour reminds the staff to check the toilets but due to tight staffing budgets placed on the manager from head office this is not always possible but if a member off staff was told of a problem they would sort it out.

It isn't accurate to assert that the only way you can get ill is not to wash YOUR hands. Those people who didn't wash their hands may have touched the door/handle/your cutlery/chair etc. They may be your waitress! As soon as you touch that, you pick up the bacteria. That is what cross-contamination is; to avoid it ALL have to wash, not just you. And yes, whilst you can't see bacteria, it is fairly safe to assume that a regularly and adequately cleaned toilet area is LESS likely to harbour nasty germs.

TBH, I don't wash my hands in some of the sinks I've seen in restaurant toilets - stuffed with tissue, (no toilet roll left) no soap, no hot water and no drying facilities or a dirty towel - I always carry anti-bac wipes and that gel stuff.

Some of the mess frankly doesn't look like it is freshly made either.

Customer "Excuse me someone has taken a dump on the toilet floor"
Manager "Sorry I am short staffed, will get someone to clean it tomorrow".
