Not that easy if one person on holiday and 2 others have phoned in sick and your left trying to run a fast food restaurant with screaming customers all wanting you to only serve them and cook food. Not everythings as simple as you think it is.
very true. its either u leave customers at the bar/table waiting to be served to check the toilets (in some places may be e.g, 4 sets of toilets) or serve the customers asap? whats more important?

A proper manager would be able to handle the situation, and should also be man enough to take responsibility.

I knew someone once who worked in a Burger King. She often had to do entire afternoons completely on her own. Ok it wasn't the busiest of Burger Kings. She had to serve, cook & clean the tabels all by herself. So your saying she wasn't man enough for fitting in the toilets as well, cleaning poo, then cooking? Do you think the customers would have likes that?

Can I tell her she wasn't a proper manager. Oh, before you start on well she should have employed more staff she had the maximum amount of staff. So shall I tell her she wasn't a good manager? Would you be man enough to say it to her face?

As I have said above, not all is as it may seem, don't assume you know better!

Surely the person at fault is the person that set the "maximum number of staff" - it's clearly to low if it leaves one person doing all the chores - either they need to raise the "maximum" and lower their profits or the buisness is simply not viable and they should wind it up. Dirty facilities is simply not acceptable as it is a health risk - and it is the responsibity of the management.

A guy at my gym is a "manager" of the local fast food burger type chain...........they pay such crap wages and expect so much out of their staff that he told me if they advertise for staff and one person turns up, that person gets the job irrespective of what qualifications they have.

They could be a drug dealer, a rapist..............

It's effectively a case of "yes, someone's actually turned up, we'll take you".

    Shocking.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

Most companies have targets eg wage targets that have to be stuck to. You can try arguing to the area manager etc you don't get enough, it will then go back and forth to several people with all the arguments etc and then usually come back no. As far as I'm concerned if they have tried to get more money and were not allowed then they are not responcible.

It's all to often assumed local management of retail stores/restaurants have complete control and can manage however they like. When you have budgets then it isn't the case. You then have to come up with the best fit.

as the public are so quick to shout 'I want to speak to the manager' alot of staff are given this title these days, lets face it if you're the only one working then you can be manager, cook, cleaner etc etc all in one

The people that make the rules and control the money are all hiding in thier offices, you'll never get to see them or speak to them.

So please don't shoot the poor workers trying to making a living! and do the best they can.
  • Of course it's the company's fault. They wouldn't be too pleased if the customers suddenly decided to pay less than the full amount for their food, so why is it acceptable to provide less than the full service and facilities?

Staffing issues aren't a customer problem.

If the manager is aware of the problem.

In the case outlined by the OP, the problems may have occurred only 10/15 minutes previously, she may have been the first person to visit since the damage was caused. If she had gone to the manager he/she may have rectified things immediately.
