parking ticket after police ok'd parking

  • In my force - if a police officer says someone can park on DYLs or, if they have just arrested someone who's vehicle is left in an area normally requiring a ticket - then a 'no ticket or tow' is arranged via the control room.

This means a 'seen' marker being placed on PNC (police national computer) which will refer anyoneone checking the car to the circumstances behind it being there - and also either informing traffic wardens or the local parking wardens via their control room not to ticket or tow the car.

Unless the officer on the street arranges this via his/her control room (they can possibly do it direct but most don't as they don't usually carry the contact numbers etc...) then you can assume you will be ticketed and/or towed.

If a special event is taking place where temporary parking is set up in an area usually 'ticketable' this should be made clear by relevant signs.

The same, of course, applies in reverse.

To all those who encouraged me to appeal (including Vic) Thank you.
For those who told me that I shouldn't have parked on a double yellow even though the police said it was ok, go suck eggs. I'm cleared of all wrong doing.

    Penalty Charge Notice No BO50*****

    Dear Mr ******

Thank you for your correspondence regarding the above Penalty Charge Notice. I have now had the opportunity to review the case. After taking into consideration the circumstances I am on this occasion able to waive the notice.

The notice was issued as the vehicle was parked in a restricted area, however, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that they did instruct drivers to park the vehicle in the restricted area, unfortunately they did not communicate this to the Parking Attendants.

The notice has been cancelled and the charge withdrawn.

    Yours Sincerely

Nice one! :D The response from the Council clearly points the finger of blame at the Police, and puts you firmly in the clear, despite all those who said you were wrong to park where you did.

I'm currently having a big glass of wine to celebrate your victory!

A big 2 fingers to all the sheep who told you to roll over and pay the fine.
