parking ticket after police ok'd parking
I parked up on a road close to the reebok stadium in bolton for the colplay gig last night was told (along with several other drivers while I was within earshot) that parking on the double yellow lines was ok as long as I was not obstructing anyone or anything.
Ofcourse I came back to find a ticket on my car.
If I appeal with just the information above and a diagram am I likely to get off?

Did you get the police officer's number? If you can quote, 'Police officer number **** told me to park...........' it will help your case.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. No.
Stupid me took a police mans word for it and then a parking attendant came along and blew my faith in the police out of the water.
I suppose they would check with the policeman?0

I don't think that the police have any authority to say where you can park, it is the parking attendant that enforces the rules.
Recently I had to park on a double yellow line to pop into a shop and there were 2 police officers standing right there on the pavement. I said I wasn't going to be long and would they not give me a ticket. They told me it was nothing to do with them, and if a parking attendant came along then I could get a ticket.0

It's completely clear what a double yellow line means - it means NO PARKING. I don't see why you should have asked a PC if it was OK to park - it isn't legal. Stop moaning and pay your fine.
And re telly-addict: you didn't "have" to park on a double yellow line.0

Parking issues are nothing to do with the Police, it's down to the Council. Nor do parking attendants liaise with the Police over these matters.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh, were you there then? I didn't see you?!0

I would write a letter to the council in question ( you should find all the info on the back of the ticket ) and explain your situaton, twice i have had parking tickets, both times were genuine miskakes, and i was let off, its got to be worth a try, good luck0

I didn't ask if it was ok to park on double yellows. I was told that it WAS ok to park on the double yellow lines.
I would take a policemans word over anyone elses. Are they not suppose to be the ones who control everyone else?
During an event like a concert if a policeman tells you to park somewhere then ofcourse your going to do it. For a parking attendant to then come along and give out tickets is just wrong.0

Did the Officer tell you to park there? He was doing traffic control? He was doing traffic control?
I understood from your post that you chose to park somewhere and then asked the Officer if you'd get a ticket for doing so? In which case, his answer would be correct and hasn't mislead you are all - the Police do not give out tickets for parking on yellow lines.
More likely, the Council (knowing that the concert is on) has specifically directed parking attendants to be in the surrounding area to ticket those concert goers who have disregarded the yellow lines.
Even if you write to the Council, explaining as you have that you "asked a Policeman if it was ok" I doubt very much if it will be a successful appeal.
Do bear in mind, as a driver, you should know the Highway Code and also, by even *asking* a Policeman if it's ok - that question still implies that you knew there was a possibility that it wasn't ok.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As I turned into the road where I eventually parked the policeman stopped each car in turn and said that it was ok to park on double yello lines as long as no obstruction was caused.
Yes he did tell me it was ok.
 No I didn't ask.
Yes he was clearly on traffic control.0
