Wrong council Tax Banding

Hi
This is my first post and I'm unsure were to post my question so please bare with me.
We had a nice letter from the VOA office saying we are in the wrong Council tax band (B) and we should have been in band "A" since 2001. We are due a refund :T but my question is are we entitled to any loss of interest?
any help is very much appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

You will find lots of info on council tax rebanding & trying to claim any backdated interest from the council on the Cutting Tax board.

Many councils are resistant to paying interest it seems.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • Don't quote me but I believe it is upto 6 years! hence they say since 2001. Well done and hope you get it all back - do check your statements carefully and make sure they don't short change you - you could also ask for lost interest as well upon receipt! Cheeky I know but it's their mistake and your loss.

    Well actually it's NOT the Council's mistake - it's the Valuation Agency's.
