The specification states "230v AC mains operation".

Yes I see that but does the transformer convert this to 12v, maybe I am not understanding this correctly but if we didnt used the transformer and just used the car adapter which would supply 12v would this work? If you look at the image no3 it says 12v dc to the left of the pic.

Should be ok..As picture gallery shows 12v dc jack. You just have to make sure the polarity is correct on the lead. You may be lucky and get a lead with it.

Under connectivity it says "PC input socket" which should probably say DC input socket. Providing your OH truck has a 12V supply and it is connected to the correct polarity, it should work fine. I can't see where a DC power lead is mentioned.

espresso, it's in the photos of the item. The one showing the sockets on the back/underside of the screen shows the DC 12v socket at the left.

I'd be more inclined to just get an inverter and run it off the mains output of the inverter. How stable is the 12v supply from the lighter socket?

This would also let him run other mains appliances like a DVD player or whatever.

Before buying, double check it's 12v in his truck, and not 24v.

You'd then be needing something like:

The truck has 12v and 24v supply so do you reckon that it will be ok then?

I would think that it would be fine on the 12V truck supply while stationary, providing that the 12V supply can provide enough current.

It could be expensive if it was ever plugged into the 24V truck supply by accident though!

  • Looking closely at the PSU image I would think the plug centre pin is +ve and the outer is -ve. You may already have the cigar lighter style lead from unused devices at home. Just be aware that car battery voltage can to up to 15V. Check the centre pin with reference to the diagram on the psu when you get it, with a meter.

Maplins do cheap meters for £4 and plugs for 79p but in different sizes 2.1mm and 2.5mm.

Bit posh for a truck :-)) Good luck

I wouldn't just plug it straight in without something to regulate the voltage. :/
