Hi not sure if ppl are aware of this, but today I went to my local car brokers (to replace sun visor I snapped off, £5 for part and fitting) and found out they sell cars dirt cheap! Cars that have been repossessed because ppl don't have insurance and then the police sell them on dirt cheap from £250 upwards, they had a decent car for £400 and they are nice and are prepared to look the car over to ensure its in good working order.

Sounds a bit good to be true - you say they look over it. Do you get any kind of warranty/MOT with the car? After reading some of the threads on here - it can up very upsetting if pay and get lots of problems - its ok if you're streetwise and don't mind/and or can take bit of a gamble - or can afford to have necessary repairs made.Genie

Sounds dodgy to me. Cars that are seized by the police for road penalty crimes usually get put through auctions or crushed. They need to get rid of them quickly so don't tend to take the trouble of selling them on individually to scrap yards!0

Usually scrap yard cars are just that, usually repaired cat C or D vehicles. Check the V5 carefully - if it even has a V5. The ploy that they are repo would lead you to suspect that a V5 wont be present.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Suppose that's not a problem if you can trailor it and get it off the road, and want to use it for spares for example.0 -
Hi thanks for your responses ans scepticism but I was there and its not dodgy, go and check it out for yourselves. Cars without tax get crushed cars without insurance get impounded and sold on.
Just thought it would do someone a good turn. When my current car gives up the ghost I will have one checked out by a machanic before I go ahead and buy but its a good deal. Doesn't have a log book but you just have to apply for one at the PO and they reduce the cost of that off of the value of the carDF as at 30/12/16

I knew one place doing this (EastCoastSalvage) - still trading, and these were repo vehicles or abandoned. These used to be cheap 2 or 3 years ago but slowly their prices have become in line with the market.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Yeah I'd have thought if they really were that amazingly cheap there'd be people queueing up for them daily.0 -
I find it hard to beleive that the police sell these cars to the scrappers,
normally any vehicle that is re-posessed/impounded/taken by bailifs etc HAS to be sold at auction by law so as to raise the max ammount of money possible,
if you look on ebay you will see vehicles on there and they state that the auction must run to the end,
In my mind they are probably selling damaged repaired vehicles hence why no logbook,ok you send of for 1 and if lucky get it straight away BUT with a mark on it stating damaged repaired vehicle,
If unlucky you wont get it untill YOU get a VIC check done which costs more money,
my advice steer clear things are only dirt cheap for a reasonIMOJACAR
