Grouting and resealing the bath

Options
Hi. My bath desperatley needs re-grouting and re-selealing. Rather than pay somebody I was going to have a go at it myself.

Any tips from anyone?

Thanks :j

    You mean it needs re-sealing between bath and tiles? Just get some silicon sealant (I prefer the more expensive brands but it should at least have anti-mould) then apply a continuous bead along the bath/wall corner. I usually spit on the end of my finger and run along the length for a nice finish - water & detergent works too I think - just don't allow dry skin to come into contact as it will lift up and spoil the finish also get rid of any excess sealant straight away! You can get a finishing tool but I have never tried one. It takes practice to get a nice clean finish (especially corners!) so I would find something to practice on a little bit first.

    I'm re-sealing this bit but also the grouting between the tiles needs doing. To be honest we've been struggling with what I think is mould (it looks like a black fungus) I'm cleaning my bathroom every other day at the moment so I though it would be easier to grout and re-seal to see if that get's rid of it.

    Does anyone know if there is any mould/fungus prevention products available.

    Thanks

    You can either;

    1) Use a grout reviver. This will be the cheapest and quickest way. You can also get this in pen form, like a marker pen you just 'colour-in' the existing grout.

    or

    2) Remove and replace the existing grout. Depending on the age and condition of your grout this may be the best long term solution. Scrape out the old grout using a special grout removing tool which has a serrated blade. Then re-grout using mould resistant stuff. This will take longer but probably be the best way to go.

    before you put the sealant around the bath , fill it up with water , seal and allow to cure , by doing this the sealant will not stretch when you next put water in

    as above but actually have a bath put in as much water as possible while your in there seal with silicone and keep it dry....( 40 liters of water plus 8-16 stone weighs quite a bit and the bath will flex with you in it

    DO NOT USE YOUR FINGER to wipe away sealent it is the bacteria in your saliva and on your finger that makes sealent go moldy use a plastic bag around your finger first...
