I never use this account since I only have a basic cash card and opened it 9 years ago, anyway I get my statement today and am shocked to see a £30 unpaid direct debit charge!
PLUS a note saying im getting charged
This is the first I heard of this charge and considering the charge was put on my account on the 6th December why didnt they tell me before now!
What can I do as I never set up this direct debit(only for £5 anyway) and am very annoyed.
Im off to town later so will ask in branch but what about till then?

If you never set up the direct debit, and have never been charged before, a rational discussion with your local banker should get it refunded to you.
It's complete unrelated to the test case etc - the DD has been set up in error (and therefore is / needs to be cancelled!), and the charge is therefore not applicable to you. Most banks and building societies would automatically refund this to you.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
I had exactly the same problem with them. It was a DD from a car finance company which i had never had dealfings with or even heard of! They told me that I had to contact this firm for re-payment and to stop further amounts from the account. I pointed out the fallacy of this and the matter was eventually sorted, but I tend to think that they do no simple checking before putting a DD into operation.
Please let us know how you get on."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

If you incur a charge I think they inform you on the statement the following month after which the charge occurred, and they take the money for the charge from your account the month following the statement on which they informed you of the charge which you incurred the month before – or something0 -
Im guessing Nationwide will sort this out for you once you visit the branch. Im sure you appreciate all letters are computer generated but im sure they will sort it out straight away
Good luck- not youll need it!0
