Orange Mobile Contract. Advice Needed.
I have recently spoken to Orange about upgrading my phone. They checked my account and confirmed that I was entitled to one. I have received my phone but have since realised that the contract is costing me too much money and rang to see if I could return the phone and cancel my contract. They advised me that I was only just one month into an 18 month contract and could not cancel it without paying the equivalent of about £35 per month for the next 18 months. I did not realise I was buying into a new contract and obviously did not sign anything as it was done by phone. How do I stand legally on this, i presume i will get bad marks against me on my credit file if i break the so called contract. Anyone had any experience on this ? Thanks all.

when you upgrade you sign into a new 12 or 18m contract, it should have been in the t+c's when you got the handset, if youve had the phone over 7days you cannot return it
theres no way out of itYes Your Dukeiness0 -
With an ugrade I understand it is like starting a new contract, hence they are retaining your loyalty with an upgrade handset. My suggestion would be that you reduce the contract down to the minimum tarriff if that is financially viable (is it about 15 quid?).
My wife got sucked into a 'free LG chocolate' upgrade 12 months ago with orange and have another 6 months to go on a useless phone which you can get for buttons now.0 -
^you cant downgrade until half way through the contract, and even then by only one level at a time i.e. 35->30Yes Your Dukeiness0
