Thats unfortunate rayday, I know how she feels though. I was a compulsive spender, it was like an addiction, and I'm sure it was, I think several people have this addiction. I was in denial, I had a house, my mother told me if I continued spending the way i was i would lose the etc...my reply, no way, it'll never get that bad....1 year later house up for sale, some debt cleared....today back where I started. I think I have kicked my addiction, this site certainly helps, and I earn good money now, i'm slowly but surely chipping away at my debt. I dont use c/c anymore, stop random spending and it feels great to finally watch the figures go down. At one point I was £30K in debt now..£12500ish done that in 2 years not including sale of house otherwise i would have around £40K of debt!!! stick in folks its worth it!!!Debt @ LBM April 2005 £27500
After working every hour god sends...debt free!!!!:beer:0 -
Well done to you, it is hard with any addiction but at least you faced yours and have lived with the consequences, which is admirable.0

well abit of help. we talked to MBNA, they are not going to do anything, however, we have to pay £40 a month instead of £5, we will just cut back £10 on food each week and we should be ok but they really had me scared thereThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Stebiz, out of interest, how did you manage to get the MBNA debt voided?, I'm not being nosy here, but i know they fight tooth and nail over CCA requests, though to be honest, i know myself some of the documents they send in support of their [STRIKE]CCA[/STRIKE] alledged CCA can amount to a photocopy of an application form, and random sets of T's & C's (which is dubious at best)
Actually have been told of one person saying "they think they dont have to pay if we cant give them the info, and that we cant make them pay - but we can"
PS - Not sure if your aware (though most are) but i (unfortunately) work there:eek:No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Glad you have come to an agreement with MBNA, to be honest I know you spent on it, but knowing you have money problems to send you a card seems mad!! I've been there when you've got no money then your card bill comes in & they've upped the credit limit! I used to think "suckers" & spend it!! Who's the "sucker" now? but I don't think I'd be in as much mess if money wasn't handed to me on a plate, they also need to take some of the responsibilty.Comping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

I too had a shopping addiction, ive racked up huge debt and have gone on a CCCS DMP. I had to sign an agreement to say whilst I am on the DMP i must not enter into any new credit.
To be honest though, I feel like a weight has been lifted off me and I can finally stop being so depressed/stressed. And I have managed to kick the addiction. I do feel i have to learn by my mistakes, and better late than never!
Its hard living on a tight budget and i am sure if someone waived a CC under your nose it would be a very tempting offer.
I am glad to hear MBNA have agreed to let you pay it back and not take it any further.Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime
Finally dealing with my whopping debt!0 -

I couldnt agree more, I was given a credit Card from Lloyds TSB with a 13,500 credit limit! I didnt ask for it, they just kept uping the limit. Yes i know i spent the money (it never went to the max) and I am responsible for my spending, but honestly £13,500 available credit on a credit card??Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime

The card I had with MBNA went back quite some time to the mid nineties. They sold it on to somebody else. Destroyed any alleged agreement etc. Without agreement alleged debt cannot be enforced even in a court. Struck out by judge...............well that is the short and sweet side of it anyway!!!;)
StebizAsk me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
Right, yes. I know they were rather ..... c**p when it came to keeeping bits of paper back then (still are in many cases TBH)No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
