Hi,
I currently have my line rental with Toucan, and have been paying for the last 8/9 months £8.99
Last night Toucan called me offering inclusive Broadband and line rental for the same cost of £8.99, if I signed up for another 12 months contract.
I was quoted that I would have speeds up to 8mb, and I would still keep my free weekend calls to 01/02/03 numbers
I realise that Tiscally now own Toucan, but wondered why they are doing this.
Andy Ideas?

Ow, I'd avoid Tiscali if I were you.
£8.99 for line rental, free calls to geographical landlines and 8mbit broadband is a good deal mind you.
What kind of download limits are there with the service, assuming they're open about them? They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
I forgot to ask last night about download limits.
I said I wanted to think about it, so they are going to phone me back this evening.
The other questions I forgot to ask were:
Will I still have free 1571 and the the free Privacy caller display option.
I am assuming that they want to move me from the "BT" part of the exchange to the LLU.
My concern here is, if I want to switch to another provider in a years time, it may cost me a re-connection fee0 -
If it sounds too good to be true......
I would advise you to not to sign with Toucan Broadband. I have only just escaped from them. It was supposed to be 'up to 8mb' but it was a shocking 300kbs (ie - less than 512 broadband).
They are obviously extremely keen to have you sign up - since they approached you with a great sounding financial package...
All the best whatever you choose.0 -
If it's LLU there probably won't be a fee, but there'll probably be a period without broandband while you're swapped back over to a BT dslam (or whoever you change to).
As always with broadband stuff, check over at https://www.thinkbroadband.com - someone over there will have been down the path you're considering, and since Tiscali are involved there'll probably be a horror story attached.
I'm fairly certain there'll be a crappy (but undisclosed) limit, traffic shaping (but they won't admit to it), and possibly some nice port blocking too. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
HI,
If I decide to decline Toucans free broadband offer, Will my phone line be moved to the Tiscali LLU at my local exchange anyway?
I don't currently have any broadband on my Toucan line at the moment, and I guess my taking them up on the offer, and agreeing to a new 12 month contract will allow them to relocate me.
I don't really want to go to LLU, as I think my options may be limited in the future, if I want to move to a non- LLU phone provider
(My broadband is a BT bisiness offering on a BT business line paid for by a company, all be it only 2MB)
Cheers0
