Looking for an offpeak deal - O2 Leisure?

Options
Hi,

I am well into my 30s, and must be unique in my age group as I have never owned my own mobile before! I am fortunate however that my company provides a mobile for me; I currently have a blackberry. The company have always been pretty good about personal calls, but have recently suggested that these are restricted to business hours; consequently I am looking for an off-peak deal.

O2 appear to have a good deal, with O2 leisure giving 1500 minutes (+250 texts) per month for just £25 per month. This reduces to £15 per month with the simplicity (sim only) option. I spoke to someone at Carphone Warehouse yesterday, he advised that he could give me a basic 'phone for £29.99, sign me up to the Leisure Simplicity deal for £15 per month, and then give me £30 cashback too. This seems like a great deal.

Does anyone have a view on this deal, and whether there might be some others that I have missed? I know that T-Mobile have a similar deal, with 3000 minutes, but these appear to be limited to calls to other T-Mobile users. 1500 minutes is more than enough, I could probably get away with 600 if I had to.

Are there any quidco deals that might better the Carphone Warehouse deal? I note that CW give £5 on sim only sales, but the CW website doesn't make any reference to the £30 cashback that they told me about in the shop yesterday.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hmmm....no replies. Not sure if this is a good sign or a bad sign.

Anyhow, I went to CW on my way back from work, to take up the deal. After afew minutes on his computer, the assistant told me that the £30 cashback was no longer available on the Simplicity Leisure, as of lunchtime today. He then went on to try to sell me some other deal. I left.

Is it usual practice for CW to try and tempt prospective customers in, with non-existent deals?

Have since been looking online at a variety of combinations. One odd thing that I have noticed, is that the O2 deal itself has changed. The deal that I was looking at, when I typed my message this morning, has been replaced by something called "Simplicity Online Leisure 15". It looks the same, but with 500 texts, rather than 250. Is it usual for deals to change on a daily basis, or am I just unlucky with my timing?

If anyone has any views on the deal, I would be very interested to hear them.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Hey Sirhan, sirhan

I've just recommened the £15 off peak tariff for my parents and they've both gone for it.

1500 Mins to ANY NETWORK and Landlines Off Peak + 500 Texts.

Best part of it is 30 day contract so no long term commitment.

Don't forget to go to the website via QUIDCO for £23 cashback :)

    Hope this helps

  • Hi Wackojacko,

I did go through quidco for the cashback (mental note - had better check that it tracked), I also bought a PAYG 'phone from them for a reasonable price (separate transaction, so should be a littlecashback there too).

Great service; both delivered really quickly; deal seems too good to be true.

    Cheers.
